Girls' Lie Leads to Detention

Quote:(Orange, California-AP) -- Three 12-year-old California girls have been sentenced to serve from 30 to 45 days' detention for falsely accusing a homeless man of attacking them.

The lie kept Eric Nordmark in jail for eight months.

Yesterday, the Orange County girls all admitted to conspiracy. One also admitted committing perjury. Two received 45 days of detention, with the third receiving a month. They were already in custody and received 25 days' credit for time served.

Each girl must perform 60 hours of community service, pay unspecified restitution and remain on probation until age 21.

Nordmark was arrested last May and charged with attacking the girls in a suburban park. His trial ended abruptly in January after one girl admitted the three friends concocted the story as a cover for coming home late from school.

That would suck to be stuck in jail just because someone didn't want to get in trouble for coming home late.

The homeles guy should've got a couple of chances to smack them around. I mean, c'mon he already did the time for it. Let him enjoy it a little.

This is the type of case where excessive punitive damages need to be awarded.

A good ambulance chaser should be able to get this guy off of the streets and onto Park Ave. If there were ever a reason for civil lawsuits, this is it.

He spent 8 months in jail... they do 60 hours of community service. OMG, what an inconvenience for those poor poor girls!

What are the chances of this guy being able to afford a good lawyer though?

I'm sure there are several lawyers who give him a "charity case", especially since it would be a shoe in.

Then again he did have free room and board for that 8 months. And now he can possibly make a bit of money on the deal.
He may even turn his life around with it.

Todays word for the day is "Contingency"

If there is a case that will undoubtedly result in a significant amount of monetary compensation, the "Contingency" Lawyers will line up around the block to take the case.. Especially in California.

Any Good ambulance chaser worth his salt would be all over this. Ask Lisboa, I am sure he could fill ya in..

What's worse is that these girls make it that much harder for real victims of abuse to come forward and be believed by authorities.

You actually get charged for your time in jail. (My best friends girlfriend works for the DA)

So unfortunately, he got jail time, and is going to get a bill for it.. IMO, they should recieve that bill along with thier hardcore 60 hours of community service.

Im mixed on that. Its good that they are charging the prisoners for their costs. But how the hell is a life-term going to pay off his debt?

He does tax returns for the guards, see, and launders money for the warden on the side.

I wonder if found better treatment in a county jail than living on the streets. Since it was the winter, it could have been.
