Cloak of Pernicity Quest

I have obtained all the items for the Cloak of Pernicity and have worked my faction up to "apprehensive" to Manfred, the gnome who receives these pieces in Ak'Anon. However, when I give him the pieces, he gives them all back and says "I won't help evil doers like you".

Facts
1) I'm a dark elf rogue, level 63.
2) I'm agnostic
3) I did not talk to Manfred's brother in PoK before I went to Ak'Anon

Questions
1) Do I need to talk to his brother in PoK?
2) Am I going to have to buy a gnome illusion potion in order to do the quest?
3) Can I simply raise my faction up higher and do the question myself?

no need to go to POK, and yes you ought to try to get an enchanter to hit you with profect illusion (or buy a non evil race illusion spell) and not sure that will help if you are a DEF

I did this quest being dubious to the gnomes as a human monk...all I gotta say is...what do ya think sneak is for crazy rogue?

The turn in does work at indifferent faction...Gonladar out.

Did it while sneaking/hidden - same message. Sorry, forgot to mention that in my original post. So neither apprehensive nor indifferent work.

From what you guys state, it sounds like a racial issue, which kinda sucks. Why have faction then? I'll try with a gnome illusion potion. If that doesn't work, I'll have a guildy with the nodrop item do the quest for me.

From what I've read, no matter your faction, you have to be a "good race". A monk who is KOS did it with sneak and essence of gnome.

I'll probably try this tonight and post my results here to let everyone else know for certain.

That's the first time I've heard of an insufficient faction message returning the items and not eating them. I'd check with sneak, rather than sneak/hide, because technically you're not supposed to be able to trade while hidden - just sneaking.

If he gives you the same response when sneaking and behind him, and we've got reports here that a human was able to do it with sneak indif, I'd say it's a racial issue. Make a gnome and give him the stuff for the turnin, or have a friend do it.

Can't do that. One part of the quest (bundle of superconductive wires) is no drop. So if the DE Rogue has it, then he's still SoL because it'd end up being a multiquest.

Gnome essence potions are cheap, less than 200 for a single dose.

Sorry for the late reply on this.

I got 2 essence of gnome and then went back into Ak'Anon.

1) I walked the whole way to Sanfryd in my normal (Dark Elven) form and got no aggro.

2) I conned Sanfryd and gave him the pieces and he gave them back stating "I'll not help evildoers like you" message.

3) I used the essense of gnome potion and conned Sanfryd: Amiable

4) I turned in the pieces and recieved the letter to give to his brother in PoK.

5) Went to PoK and turned in the letter to the brother and recieved the cloak, all in normal (Dark Elven) form.


So, it appears that at least the gnome in Ak'Anon requires that you not be an "evil" race. I may try it again some time with another illusion, such as human or elf, although Erudite (mask) did not work either.

a) Faction alone didn't seem to be a deciding factor
b) Sneak/hide did not allow the turn-in
c) Religion did not factor in as I'm Agnostic
d) Illusion is only needed for the turn-in in Ak'Anon, not PoK.

These are simply my findings with a lvl 63 DE agnostic Rogue. I know I was able to perform the quest with my 52 barb warrior with no problem. Your mileage may vary.
