God, I gotta deal with all the UK fans at work AND at the Safehouse. I think we should declare the Safehouse NCAA free. Not forever, just like, the rest of March.

I favor no one. If I did I would have shot back with something like "Yay Cards" or some such thing instead of (jokingly I should remind you) suggesting a ban on NCAA discussion. Lighten up.

Man, someone wrote "Go Big Blue!" on the board in my class here (Louisville KY), and when I asked who Big Blue was they paniced (just moved here from washington state). A few of them were ready to string me up on the spot, but instead they decided to lecture me on the glorious Kentucky Basketball tradition.

I expected us to go as a 10 or 11 seed. # 8 ain't bad!

The winner of the bracket this year will get either a Safehouse Hat or T-shirt, assuming that the store thingie is up and running some time in the next 4 or 5 years. And yes, Meddik, I know you never got your hat from last year. Once Fricka takes over the whole shebang I'll make sure that you get it Edited by: Llabak Tharr at: 3/14/04 7:51 pm

The cats have had a glorious basketball history and you should have been lectured about it...after a stern beating of course!
Im a big UK fan which sucks living in ohio, because people are so blind and think OSU is actually good at basketball! Im even told the Big 10 is the hardest confrence in basketball too! I do try very hard not to laugh...but its unavoidable sometimes! I pretty much agree with UK fighting it out with Uconn at the final game!
To all who compete in the bracket tournament, good luck n GO Cats!

Everyone but me. I get to put in my picks after the games have been played so that I winx0r you all!
Actually, yes. So not only do you lose points if you make a bad pick, the points you lose increase exponentially if someone you predicted to go all the way loses early. You have to have the entire bracket, including the championship game, picked before any games have begun playing on Thursday. Choose wisely, my son.
Well, if my picks come true (fat chance!) then I'll be happy enough with or without a hat. Anything to let Wake beat Duke one more time this year.

I'm just amazed that Eastern Washington is in the tourney. It's one of the 3 regional state colleges in Washington (Western, Central, Eastern), and I don't think anyone ever expected them to make the NCAA tourney.
My picks are done. Let's hope Gonzaga is as good as I think they are.

After being in Atlanta past few days watching the SEC tournament, hard to go against UK; but something just tells me that they won't do it, but I haven't done any brackets yet.
Well, I filled out all my brackets but haven't been following basketball this year... so, I'll just rely on crossing my fingers.

ok, this is cool, just noticed that Yahoo has a scenario generator, so I now know that I still have a chance to win.
I'm Tech fan, FYI.
My East Rutherford bracket looks pretty good so far. Just need the underdogs to win those two games and I'll be sitting pretty there. Good thing for me is that I picked UK and Gonzaga to bite it early. Overrated Stanford losing hurt a bit, but 3 of my final 4 are still in it. The problem with my bracket is that even if I get all 4 of the Final Four correct, Tech basically has to win it in order for me to beat Meddik.

Both of you need to start watching the SEC, you know Kentucky, Miss. St., Florida. Oh ok, Vanderbilt and Alabama.

Think I don't know ACC basketball? South Carolina dominated it
I pay pretty close attention to the ACC. Exspecially since I HATE d00k, and I get a certian perverse glee when UNC loses these days.
***warning midwest whine incoming***
Maybe just maybe if the Big 12 was on one of the coasts we would get some respect. Proud member of the Church of Lazlo
Wow, Lilum and I agree about two things? I seriously HATE Duke and UNC both.
Oh, and about the coasts thing... For all intents and purposes, the "East Coast" that gets the media attention generally starts with DC and goes North. Anything South of DC is treated like flyover country the same as the midwest is.
EZ_ColvinCozener
03-24-04, 10:34 AM
The Big 12 gets more respect than you think. Yes, majority consider ACC the top conference, but thats because it is. You can't take a couple of good seasons and say that B12 is better than the ACC; but I think most do consider B12 the 2nd best conference, supplanting the SEC. Its not lack of respect you're getting, its just that you're trying to overturn the ACC

Wooo!! Pokes win again!
Man... this nearly makes up for all the pain and suffering I've had being an OSU grad.
Now if they can just shoot down the Hawks, o'l Eddie will be back to the final four again... And if they do that they'll be facing whoever manages to survive the bloodbath that is the St. Louis region. Who knows, maybe Eddie will finally get his chance in the big game.
Hey! I can dream can't I?
Couple of good seasons?
Since the Big 12 has come into exsistence this year is the fewest teams it has had in the tourney at four. It regularly takes six. KU is ALWAYS there, so is Texas and one of the Oklahoma schools, Mizzou usually makes it too. I'm actually glad MU didn't make it this year since if there's any school I hate more than d00k it's MU. But I digress, the Big 12 has been a power house since before it was the Big 12 (Big . It just goes to show how little respect it does get if you think at least 4 schools in the tourney since the tourney went to 64+ teams in a couple of good seasons.

Decided to do some research, for the years 1994-2003(last 10 years)
ACC with 9 schools had 43 entries in the tournament
which comes out to a 48% participation
Big 12 with 12 schools had 54 entries - 45% participation
pretty close, but here's the kickers:
Final Four appearances:
ACC-9
B12-4
Champions:
ACC-2
B12-0
and luckily I stopped at 1994, because ACC won in 91,92,93
decided to look at SEC
52 entries - 43% participation
here's the kickers again:
Final Four-8
Champions-3
If you want to say the Big 12 gets no respect, well there's your reason, they don't perform in the big time, and thats what counts for the major conferences.
Oh geez the "you have to win to get respect" arguement.
Remind me again where Roy Williams went when he left KU. I'm pissed that Roy left us, but I still respect the man. We're talking about the winningest active coach in the NCAA. Now use your research abilities to find out in what conference he set that record.
Sorry I don't buy that arguement. Winning the big game isn't everything. Running a clean program (ignore Mizzou on that one), graduating your players, playing a strong non-conference schedule, and in general winning should count for something. If not everything. There can only be one champion every year and more often than not the champion isn't the team the performed the best throughout the year.

Quote:Running a clean program (ignore Mizzou on that one), graduating your players, playing a strong non-conference schedule, and in general winning should count for something.Sounds like the ACC to me, plus they win the big games.
The Roy Williams arguement has no merit, its funny that you use only active coaches. Do your own research and find out which conference he ran to also.
Getting respect and winning do go hand in hand. If not, look at the Ivy league, I would say they run clean programs and graduate their players, but do they get respect in the basketball world? Only Princeton does.
I will stop debating with you now, its obvious that you just want to be the unrespected conference, so you can walk around and say look at us, we get no respect.
Face it, the ACC is the best basketball conference in the nation, and the Big 12 and SEC are close seconds.
The funny thing about all this is, I'm a SEC fan.

Yes, especially since the Big 12 wasn't around before then, it was founded on Feb. 25, 1994.
Most people seem to forget that the Big 12 hasn't been around that long.
