Just a question.
Another forum I visited does that.

who would say what topic is politics and whats not ? topics get derailed way too much

I say no just because this is a gaming forum, even though most LO regulars seem to forget it. Just keep the general discussion in Logged Out, unless this becomes a General Discussion forum with gaming as an secondary theme.

No seperate forum for politics, the topic fits under the Logged Out umbrella and the staff has enough to watch out for with the political threads in this forum alone and the comments that creep into Rant Hall.

I really wish you did it worked great for my server board.

What's the difference between not clicking a thread that says George W. @#%$-ity @#%$ @#%$ and his band of @#%$ @#%$ up the world and not clicking into a Safehouse Politics forum.

This forum has always been general off-topic non rant. And frankly, with all the games coming out in the near future, one less forum to moderate (especially one so full of piss and vinegar) is bonus to me.

Edit: Helped the filter

it's an election year ALL the boards are full of political ranting, every 4 years it's the same....

That too. No what would be nice a @#%$ anime forum, so I don't have to stab my eyes out every afternoon. Princess Moanookie and her Tentacle Gang Take on Wababazoo in Laaluka Poo XXIII gets old real quick to people who are completely cluieless (and apathetic).

Ok so then make an anime/politics forum so I dont have to see either.

Isnt going to happen. We need less political arguing around here, not more.

Hmm, I haven't made my yearly request that we disallow political threads altogether for 2004... Thanks for reminding me.

If we had informed debates, that would be one thing. However, a large percentage of our political or issue oriented threads inevitably boil down to one person, usually uninformed, thread squatting with iron will, determination, closed mind, strong feelings, and few facts spouting out against anyone who dares disagree with their magnanimous, enlightened view on the topic at hand.

If this isn't already written down as a internet law, I hereby declare it Wraine's law. And I don't know about you, but I'd hate to see a forum full of that crap on the Safehouse. Wraine aka "The Spine Tickler!"

I'm not getting why politics should be separated or removed. Getting rid of political topics would make for a boring board, since most topics touch on politics in one way or another.

Hah, that's awesome.

I just had this image of some sumo-looking dude squatting in a thread.

Who wants to bet that each person who read this immediately thought of a particular poster, and that each person thought of someone different. I thought of me, though I don't squat. Half the time I forget the idiocy I wrote and move on. :p

good call. I'm also betting that almost nobody thought of themselves...

It is true that some folks here are much more knowledgable and can pull up links and articles in a hurry to back up their arguments. (*cough*Meddik*cough*), but most folks don't have time or energy to put that much into an argument.

While most of the political debates that go on here are probably rife with misinformation and wreckless fervor, they are surely interesting. Sparking interest in politics, especially on the global scale is a great thing I'd say, even though such threads tend to be amateur and sorely lacking in actual fact.

But then the truth has little place in a political argument anyway does it

I'm sure I'm guilty of presenting assumption and strong feelings as fact too, but those debates are some of the most interested threads I see here.

I do that sometimes, especially about certain subjects (Palestine, immigration, gay rights, the environment, and stem cell research), but I think Ive gotten better about it recently.

At least, Ive gotten better about it with this screen name =)

Not me, I had this immediate list of like 20+ names that scrolled through at supersonic speed.

Then I giggled at the notion that we didn't have this already.

Then I thought of cheese.

After that I immediate thought of watching something on the DVD player and wished I had some of that silly blue Sprite and some pepperoni. /shrug, never said I made sense.

The point of the separate forum is to discourage, not encourage more posting.

How about this instead--have one big politics thread like the "First thing that comes to mind" thread and lock all threads to consolidate? The thing I don't understand is why liberals are posting political stuff on the Safehouse, that's just asking for it.

EZ_nekoken

I try to skip over the political threads. I have enough aggravation in my life. If they were in another forum I wouldn't have to use my mental filter. However, unless it was titled something like "Political yammerings by idiot gamers" then I think it would encourage more people to post. Less politics is good.

If you take out the politics what does that leave? Not much really. Certainly no discussion on current affairs or anything remotely "RL".

It would end up a forum filled with anime threads and the latest flash games.

Well, Aidden, there are a handful of people who Vote differently than Lisboa, and can back up their positions. Hell, why post stuff if you are going to get challenged on it?
