Any of you all playing Lineage 2?

I am currently beta testing it and it is not too bad if you like guild warfare.

They are going into open beta on March 28 and are saying that they will not wipe open beta characters when game goes live.

Open beta is scheduled to last 1 month then you would get the 1 month of free time with purchase of game so not too bad of a deal if you want to try it out.

I am thinking I am going to play it into retail at least till WoW comes out.

Hey there Grendl. Yeah I still lurk from time to time here. Hard to give up a place that I spent so much time at in the past.

Open beta is scheduled to start Mar 28 from what I have heard.

By the way I would recommend downloading the client now if you have any desire to play.

It took about an hour or so to download it and you do not need an account to do so.

That way you do not get caught up in the open beta download crunch (if that happens).

Oh crazy, I was about to make a thread about Lineage 2. My friend got into beta but I did not, watched him play and have played a few times over at his house. It seems quite nice, especially for beta. Then I saw a video of the game over in Korea, and DAYUM! It's amazing. So I'll be playing in Open Beta, everyone should at least give it a try. It's got pretty graphics, but a little too pretty for my computer. The charecter selection/creation screen lags to the point where it's unplayable.

I assume it's probably just a beta thing and will be fixed soon, so I have to wait a little while to give it a try. ----------

This and city of heros beta are both linked thru the PlayNC site and somehow my password is fubar. Grrr. So @#%$ lame they are using a third party to manage all the billing and account info instead of doing it in house. Jumping thru 3 hoops and 2 websites just to change my password? I do not like that.

I'm with you wix on the BS third party shiznats. I felt the same thing navigation through the labyrinth that is FFXI's "play online" stuff. I still can't figure out how to retrieve my password.

Both games use a seperate program, PlayNC, to manage accounts instead of just having it all tied into the game (like how Everquest is). The difference is you sign into PlayNC, and then you sign into the game. Just unnecessary processes.

Once you create the PlayNC account I never had to go back to PlayNC.

I just launch the game and log in directly from there. Has a normal log in screen no wierd playNC stuff or anything.

I do agree that having to set an account up outside the game is a bit of a pain but SOE has been goign that way too it seems and EQ is just on a bit older of system.

As for being rough on graphics I was running the game on a AMD 2100 Geforce4 ti 4400 and 1 gig of ram. It ran ok with the graphics mostly all turned on.

I recently had to move some pc parts arround so I am currently running it on AMD 2500 Barton Geforce4 ti 4400 and 512MB of RAM and I found the game choppy on my old settings. So I set the graphics down and it ran better. My conclusion is having RAM is very important for this game if you want to enjoy all the graphics.

Can not wait till end of this week will have my other machine up and running which is a bit more robust.

1 hour download? 1 gig and the patch is very hefty to, its more of a turn on the computer and sleep/go to work type of download.

Hey Remmi good to see you arround ole dwarf.

The problem with making a mega clan is that clans are limited in size by what is called clan level.

To raise it in level the leader has to pay a lot in adena(money) and sp(skill points). So in order to get as big as possible would really need a hardcore sort to be the leader.

I really like my orc mage but do not like the way they look. My roots make me want to play a Dark Elf Abyss walker but I think they are going to be a dime a dozen.

Currently I am goofing off (chasing pks and what not) on the not Bartz server (forgot name) with a low level Dark Elf named Maladen.

One last thing you also patch the game without having an account so you may want to do that too as it is a somewhat long proceess (think about an hour if you are patching the non-prelude download - not sure if there is much of a patch if you downloaded the prelude client). Everything's downloaded/registered/ready to go. I, too, will be on Sieghardt. Look for me as either Leiciphis or Faerilar. Personally, I'm leaning towards Dark Elf race. But I haven't married myself to that idea.

Ive found the best way for me to log in. It should work for all though.

Just type in your username and password, from there just keep clicking "log in" like mad. You should be able to get into the game less than 1 minute.

Okay, I got logged in and everything. Leiciphis, Dark Elf mage, Seighardt. Really late last night, there were more mobs than people. We outnumbered those low level mobs by about 3 to 1. KS's were unavoidable, they happened way too much. Lag was horrid, nobody was happy. Server stops, everyone waits awhile.

Tonight was a lot better...comparatively. So far, the people have either A: become sick of lag and quit, or B: spread out levelwise, or both. When you fight mobs, the KS's are now closer to null. But the servers are still bogged down out here - you average somewhere between 3-6 seconds of delay. Granted this is open Beta, they might be trying to stress test. With the delays, I was able to get very close to level 7 tonight...I would've probably hit 8 or 9 as a fighter, but I'm an idiot.

This could be a pretty fun game, after they add a server or two. If you can't get in, you might want to wait a week. But if you decide to try it out now (lag and all), keep two things in mind:

1. Be warned that the Dark Elf town on Seighardt is a vortex of souls that takes way too @#$%! long to navigate. It's not that big; it's just horrobly overcrowded. Try to make it so that you crawl through these places as little as possible. They just suck...trust me. A click averages in delay by about a minute or two. Personally I would recommend exploring Lineage's website for their town maps before exploring first hand, you'll save a lot of time.

2. If you choose to be a mage (rogue board, I know), mana will be a'plenty and you will 1-2 hit kill everything until at least my level. Lotsa fun! And thanks to the lag, I haven't had to sit down yet. Timing will be a much bigger hassle, though, as you need to plan your moves at least 6 seconds in advance. Running away isn't an option with the servers at their current speed. This, combined with sheer incompetence, is the reason why I have died way too much.

But hey, for those of you that haven't been able to log in, don't worry: you're not missing that much yet. I know I'm not really one to write reviews, and I'm also doing this at a really low level. I just thought I'd lift or shoot everyone's spirits...take your pick.

Yeah servers are over crowded to say the least.

Also some races are just a lot more popular than others.

I know for a fact that the dwarf area for example is not over crowded. Of course dwarves do not get any real combat skills so they are not popular unless you want to craft.

The orc area is crowded but not nearly as bad as dark elf which is just horrible. Never thought I would hear a guy complaining that there are too many hot ladies in thongs and mini skirts but it is true.

I heard human area is very packed and I am guessing that elf ville is the same.

Drk-Elf Abyss Walker, Human Treasure Hunter, and Elf Plains Wlaker (I think that is what it is called).

They are all slightly different but at same time have a lot in common.

I finally got in last night--er, don't remember which server--and played around fer an hour or so.

How about we pick a common "Safehouse" server? I think I'll continue to play around with different races until they bring up server #4 in a few days, which apparently has been unoffically dubbed as the "RP" server.

I think i made a mistake picking a dwarf. they are useless till lvl 20 and my first feat is 320 SP! This game is weird.

One of the dwarf skills is sweep & spoil, which basically makes the drop more loot or special crafter loot.

graphics are nice, the interface is stupid, content is lacking but everything else has been falling into place nicely for me.

Sieghardt is our "common" server so far, most ppl have a toon on there, but the downtime is kinda sucking.

You know whats funny, they have a "npc server". It crashed a few times so everyone just sits around waiting for all the mobs to come back.

Mages seem to be the powerclass but its really easy for melee's to zerg in groups.

Archers are actually some of the most powerfull classes.

They are generally faster than everybody else and of course have a range attack that hits hard as heck.

The highest level person in Korean live game is an Elf Ranger.

While dwarves do have it rough from a combat point of view 320 sp for a skill is not too bad. My orc mage has to pay 540sp for my first spells spells.

Been playing the game for a few weeks now. Leveled up and went exploring even with the impending wipe. The game is great, and is very polished.

When open beta started, all hell broke loose. Servers have been real sketchy since, due to massive over population. I find it sort of funny that the devs didn't anticipate such popularity.

On the path of becomming what EQ never allowed me to be. The pvp seems pretty balanced. I have beaten people as a caster, an archer, a melee, and a mixture of the second two, which appears to be the most common make-up of the melee classes at low level.

I love the game, and highly recommend everyone to give it a try while it is free for the month at least. You have nothing to lose but some time downloading the game.

Just started the game this afternoon in the hour I have before English class. Started a human figher type and got to lvl 4. I have to say I'm very impressed with this game. The interface is very intuitive, gameplay is very smooth and enjoyable, and the graphics are stunningly beautiful although taxing even with a 2.8ghz and FX5900. I can't wait 'til I get out of class.

the good news is they do add servers rather quickly. Taiwan open beta had I believe around 20 or so by the time it was finished. Wish I could get some leveling in now that characters arent going to be wiped anymore. Was pretty tired of 1-20 for every race and havent played for a few weeks now waiting for open beta.

You don't necessarily apply for a beta account, you hit the "Join Now" button on the top left of the main screen, which will more or less lead you to here:

I've been playing the last 2 days. The best times seem to be late morning (11am PST) and evening (10pm PST). I had no trouble logging on at those times. Just have to go on when the kids are in school or in bed. Just avoid the Net Cong.

Too bad that for people on east coast with normal work schedules this is just not possible.

I try to get on arround 8-9pm est and try off and on till about 11pm est. I gotten on sometimes but more often than not can not get on.

I like to look at this as a chance to play FarCry which is awesome.

Seems to be a lot better today/last night.

Was able to log in last night after just 12ish tries. This morning, first shot, both times. Was not booted once.

Finally got my damned bow, so now I can start getting money for armor. Very tired of being naked running around everywhere.

If anyone is on 2 and wants to do stuff, just let me know. I am still pretty close to the DE homeland, probably until 20ish.

For those of you waiting to get emails after signing up...I could not get a response from them on my regular email after signing up. No matter how many times I tried. Then I signed up with an alternate (and generic) yahoo email and immediately got their email with the key/code.

Try an alternate email.

Wasn't there a beta a while back that had problems with their email notifications, because most spam filters were filtering out the notifications.
