For the preface, I was diagnosed with ADD after I almost failed out of my junior year of high school. Almost failing with nearly a 1300 on the SATs just didn't seem right to my parents, and most of the points I lost in my classes fell on homework... They brought me in to see someone, the doctor almost immediately diagnosed ADD, and they put me on the lowest dose of medication possible.
Fast forward 3 years, I'm in my second year at college, I knocked out 5 college classes my senior year of highschool and I'm doing fine. However, my perscription was set to run out during midterms week, so I went in to see the doctor here instead of going home to get a refill.
Doctor tells me that he should be able to write it for me because it's not a controlled substance, like ritalin is, and he goes and checks something. Oopse, concerta (even at 18mg over 8 hours) is a controlled substance, Adderal (Ritalin with an ANTIDEPRESSANT, basically) is NOT.
Adderal ****s me up pretty hardcore, we tried that first, before concerta.
So, I get my doctor back home to fax my doctor here some forms with a formal diagnosis. He botches it, faxes the wrong forms, that was the 21st.
No worries, doctor calls me, I call the doctor back home and have him fax the right forms this time, med center has record of a second fax being sent the 22nd.
I had 10 pills left when this whole affair started, 3 pills left when I called again last friday, had to take one on saturday when I started my new job, and had to take one today to study for my calc exam.
I'm down to 1 pill left, 3 quizzes and a test left this week, I'm dead in the ****ing water because some jackhole kids figured out a way to distill the ritalin out of this pill and turning it into a controlled substance. AND the doctor still hasn't called me back to know if the paperwork is sufficent yet, worst part is I've left him messages thursday, friday, and this morning. *sigh*.
I really shouldn't have to leave late late tonight, drive 150 miles, see the doctor in the morning, and drive back just to get the meds I need.
That's funny, I have ADHD too, and concerta really messes me up. It's great stuff, I can take it for a day, but if I take it two+ days in a row, it makes me really depressed. Did you have adderall XR when you tried it, or the regular? I take XR... the regular stuff is way too harsh. I feel your pain though, I hate those idiot moron people who have to abuse ritalin/adderall etc. and make it so hard for people who actually need it. Also FU to school insurance for not covering ADHD medication.
Wait... wasn't adderall, I think that's controlled too, it's stratera.
They throw in an antidepressant element and suddenly it's no longer controlled?
Stratera made me feel strung out, like I had stayed up all night and was running on just caffine, disconnected and the like, slightly dizzy. Not fun at all. Very similar to how I felt when I tried anti-depressants back in middle school.
If I was in a new location and knew that my prescription was expiring, I think I'd allow more than 10 days to correct it. Maybe it's my history of dealing with Naval hospitals, but I'd never assume less than a month to process any type of paperwork.
Plus, it's cool on this board to belittle America and imply that it's a capitalistic sewer where everyone thinks they're special and can buy their way out of any problem. I just want to be cool too!
What? Will enough money not buy you out of any problem? How is pointing out the truth belittling america? Our founding fathers worked hard and sacrificed their lives so that the rich could buy themselves out of trouble?
Mug a person for their wallet and get convicted and go to normal jail. Steal 1000s of peoples money, making millions, and you might go to jail, and it would be less of a pound-me-in-the-ass prison if you do.
So we've learned that even if we wait til the last minute, we can still get our way if we through money at the problem.
Yay America!
[derail] We we were looking to hire a new director I remember on of the company suck-up telling him "yeah this place is great whenever we got a problem we just throw money at it <stupid laugh>"[/derail]
and the only thing that really keeps my sinus from going nuts during the season change is tylenol cold.. which thanks to the meth-tards can only be bought OTC from the pharmacist (which was at wal-mart) she had to take every piece of infrom from y DL. and make me pay for it there but refused to ring up the rest of my stuff ****** meth-tards

Ummm........that's military. NOTHING is as slow as government or military when it comes to submitting and processing paperwork. You should know that. In the 'real world' you shouldn't have to work quite that far ahead.

The more you leave dead, the less you need to watch your back
My sister works for a fairly large university in student finance. Based on her stories, there is something slower than the military for processing paperwork
Edit: It just dawned on me that I spelled throw as through earlier. I won't bother going back to fix it at this juncture, but will endeavor to type the correct word in the future.

Yeah, seriously. It's easier to get ******* Rx drugs than it is to get an effective over-the-counter antihistamine. **** you, politicos! **** you, Patriot Act!
Because partying is more fun with ADD in full effect?
Actually, kindof. I don't drink, and if you've ever partied with an ADD kid... we tend to take on whatever is around us. I act like a drunken idiot when I'm stone sober, at least when I'm around other drunks.

Sure makes me a cheap date at least.
I agree with this statement.. we do act like drunken idiots when we party while sober...
I have ADHD, I stopped taking the medication when i was fourteen. I was prescribed Ritalin. Why? Because, I hated how it brought me down. The simple fact that I felt drowsy, unresponsive, and just plain tired didn't sit well with me.

Same here on both points.
I was on a time relesed ritalin and I was a complete zombie but damn did my grades shoot up

Well, you've gone up 6 spots on my list. Congrats!
