"I ate giant saucy lamb balls last night. They were good at first, then a lot less good. The waiter was nice though, he put lapkins in our laps personally. My brother said it was kind of creepy but I found it mildly enjoyable." - Glip the Gnome
I have a question I hope some of you veterans can shed some light on. I'm going to have some weapons crafted and I can't decided between a shortsword of striking or a hammer of striking. I like the +5% crit from the shortsword and I like the bigger damage from the hammer...
In your opinions- which would be the better dps choice? Also feel free to let me in on what your prefered weapon setup is (I'm a 23 level rogue right now)
I'd hold off until after the haste change (unless you've got plat to burn). If haste is going to become more important to damage output, it stands to reason that weapon speed will as well.
I'm waiting for them too, got myself a nice devastating hammer for the time being, didn't want to waste all my money on striking crystals and now waiting for the changes to decide if it's going to be a striking dagger or a striking hammer.
I just finished Greystone and replaced Slaughter with the dagger. Although the greystone dagger has roughly 6 more dps rating, my overall dps rating goes down. Is it because Slaughter has a +dmg modifier? Is Slaughter truly better than the Greystone dagger? Is there any reason to believe the quality of a weapon uncommon, rare, legendary, fabled would have some kind of bonus?
I remember talking to somone about this earlyer i forget what excatly was the reason why the rating went down but i think it had something to do with the daggers attack speed. In either case, always equip the weapon with the highest min and max damage (screw the weapon DPS until they fix haste). Obviosly if the 2 weapons are within a few points min/max wise, go with the weapon with the better stats.

I am just curious how is haste fix going to help? Is the global refresh rate be depended on how fast the weapon speed is?
Anyone remember the big slow weapon in EQ from Kunark, the one with I think it was 100 dmg and 50 speed, something like that, but let's get back on track now.
If the dps is equal or almost equal, get the weapon with the highest avg dmg. In this example, the slaughter looks nice and red, but the greystone weapon is better.
Slaughter:
avg dmg= 100.5
Greystone:
avg dmg= 128.5
so your specials will do more dmg and the few times you will use your auto attack you will still hit for 4.26 dmg/second more.
You have to look at how much auto attack contributes and how avg dmg you will lose on your specials to be sure if a weapon is better then another weapon.
Haste fix? We don't know. It's going to be significant that's what Silius promised us. He said, we want haste after the fix, but that was 3 months ago and no word since. It might be hitting us before xmas, if we are lucky.
While it wasnt brought up, just though Id throw it out there since this is talking about weapons. In regards to Athriss' Dagger of Betrayal, the life tap does like 100ish dmg/healing and procs rarely. Might be based on int or wis, which mine is low. Wish I knew prior to getting so thought to say for anyone that may be considering.
Still perfer zarrax's dagger. Might be 1/2 the chance to proc as athriss's but its (according to your stats) about 10 times more damage and 3 times more healing. Not to mention it has higher damage and IMO better stats ;P
Was it ever determined how the haste changes effected which weapons to use? Furthermore, is it the same for all classes? I mean, if axe/dagger(I'm talking end-game here) is best for a rogue then does it go to follow that axe/axe is best for a warrior for example?

Haste fix/change is probably another 6 or 8 months away, and there really hasn't been any information about it other than it's planned.
Thoughts on Agony/Ecstacy dualweilding for end-game?
I do use Ecstacy together with Zaraax dagger sometimes to refresh my mana pool and for fun in groups but other than that Admiral axe or Sawtooth + Zaraax dagger ftw.
Agony/Ecstasy are no good for defensive since Ecstasy is no longer a parrying dagger. The refresh thing is "supposed" to be fixed in GU5 but we'll see if it really happens. I just asked because a lot of bards seem to like using the combo, altho they do admit to only using the combo during group/solo settings and going axe/ss for raiding... so I'm guessing they'd be good solo or group but gogo magic axe/dagger combo on raids...
