Yes, there is Vanguard news

I don't have a link to the article on Massively (hey, i am lazy ok). But during the fanfaire SOE confirmed there will be 2 updates this year to VG, but no real information as to what.

I think it will take more than some 'updates' to revive the game, but who knows.

And even more news!

Things Gidoo mentioned:

New instrument for bard - there will be an npc displaying it soonish.

AAs - on second update

Socketed bag

Every class is going to get something shiny

UR drops will be 1% or so easier

CoB is meant to be after current content... ie pota etc. starts at 53- goes to 55 Sounds like it is going to be developed similar to Magi ..it gets harder as you get in deeper. CoB bosses will be very challenging. This is going to be group content. There will be strat involved to the bosses... maybe similar to kdq?

There will be a cave based dungeon that comes in on second update that ties in with CoB.

Currently it is in game but unused and willl be revamped with a new name. (I'm thinking cave of wonders? is the cave he is referring to)

Death mechanics will change and summons will replace rezs - this remains negotiable as he wants to see how it goes on test. Theres room for tweaks on it.

Cragwind dragon is 1 of 2 overlands on first update.

No need to finish RI questlines. There will be a tie in if they are done on some of the items to reward those who did do them.

Golden path will be a self directed path that a player can choose for leveling up their alts or main that will give slightly higher exp if they choose to use it.

level 20 flying mount... completely new style of mount.

And they plan to do some marketing.. didnt elaborate but said they are planning to do some emails and such to bring people back.
So....pretty awesome. Kind of out of nowhere, but great!

Your updates make me nostalgic and sad. I had so much time, energy, and genuine lubbins vested in this game. Moreso than I ever did with EQ I think.

I'd love to come back... I just don't have the time to commit like I used to. Glad it still has a pulse.

Honestly, if you have a guild or a regular group, the game isn't completely a time sink. Don't get me wrong, if you want to get really powerful and see some of the really cool content, of course you need to sink in some time. But the game does have a solo/small group progression and, following the golden path (ugh...something I absolutely hate but recognize as necessary for the current population level), it's pretty easy to find groupmates for the content. There's also mentoring--if attaining AA's is similar to EQ2 then there should be good incentive to mentor down and group with players, too.

I may install it again. Trying to find something to do for the next week.

FWIW, I just had a blast reading through this little nugget of Vanguard history.

If you do, look me up. I'm playing as Shmu, 48 Bloodmage, atm, though I have a few lower level alts.

More news: apparently the dev team has double in size (though...I thought the dev team was down to one part time guy so....not sure if that's a big thing or not, tbh) and lots of old devs are being put back on VG

Well, either way, AAs (which are mostly done from what I recall), more content and, perhaps, Stiirhad for real real implemented is on the horizon so...exciting times for VG. Now if they could only redo the character models....

Truthfully my entire time i was in beta from the tail end of beta 1 to release was the most fun i had in the game. I still had fun in the live game but after awhile it got to me that the dev team kept shrinking and nothing being done to the game worthwhile.

I miss playing the game though, mainly due to I am playing no mmo at the moment. Had alot of good times in VG

Hey look, a shiney!

http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/03...s-up-dev-team/

Actually, with all the other mmo's for the most part being F2P, this is the last barrier that kept me from playing this game. Can't wait to get back to mucking around with my bazillion chars.

Well since it's SOE, you're going to end up having to probably pay to access each of those separate characters.. about as much as you would just on a $15/m sub.

Short term yes, long term? probably not. I have a good amount of station cash at the moment. but....

They really mucked up EQ2 FTP for established characters, and i am hoping its not going to be as bad. I mean, i logged in my necro and would have had to pay quite a penny to reequip all my legendary and higher items. i said screw it though, told my guild see ya later, and haven't logged back in.

I keep myself to 2 subscriptions of any game at once and Rift and ToR are still entertaining me
