What the hell is this bukkake of Verizon taking away the New Every Two plan, and instituting a $30 Upgrade Fee? It's now actually CHEAPER to get a new phone if I allow my contract to expire and get a whole new account? Bet if I did that and got a Google Voice # I would have to worry about changing my phone # all the time, either.
Oh, and you want me to ditch my unlimited data plan too? Gods above... it's not like I even get near 4 GB usage per month over 4 phones, but still... at least tethering would be included in the new plan instead of having to pay $30 a month for that if I had really needed it.

Check out the other major carriers. Verizon is actually the last to put that policy into place. They do, however, want everyone off the legacy data plans.
/has Verizon
//doesn't mean I like the changes
///cancelled the data plans we had and am saving $60+ a month
I'll stick to my sprint account with unlimited everything, plus I can upgrade the phone every year if need be.
Oh when I lost a verizon phone it was cheaper for me to cancel the line and transfer it to another carrier and rebuy the phone on account then buy the phone at full price and keep the account. I even told them what I was doing and the csr said well that sounds like the best way to go.

Verizon can have my unlimited plan when they pry it from my cold dead fingers. If I had a cap they would be charging the sin out of me as I blow past what it would be about every other month. Month to date I am at 5.8gb and only 9 days into my cycle. Lots of travel and using Grooveshark and netflix will eat up data quick.

Honestly, we haven't even gotten to 4 GB usage in an entire month (that's with 2 smartphones and 2 "dumb" phones on our plan), but we don't usually watch video, and most of our downloads are while we're home and connected via WiFi. Their shared 4 GB plan is actually just about the same as I've been paying per month. If we use our service the same way as we have been, we'll be fine. If any of our habits change, though, it'll be costly.

Right, that is why I am unwilling to let it go. Sure I might go 6-8 months without coming anywhere close, but those months where I travel and I do....yea..
Anyhow, fortunately they can't force me into a limited contract. I just renewed my contract so they are stuck for 2 years and once it expires I will just outright buy a new phone instead of upgrading.
I would be in trouble w/o my unlinited data plan from Verizon.
I have 5 phones with it and with all the netflix, surfing we do....

I'm looking at a small local carrier, Ntelos. They have agreements with Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and others for roaming on their towers, and no roaming fees. Plus, they still have unlimited data/voice/text plans. They subsidize the phone prices less, so instead of a 'free' phone you get a set discount on purchasing a phone through them. Not a bad selection though, from Droid Incredible 2 <something or another version> to the iPhone.
Check your small local companies, they might offer something similar for a good price.
