Everyone who has DirecTv knows what this is about. Currently they and Viacom are in a fight over how much DTv needs to pay for their channels. DTv has given all their subscribers free access to the Encore movie channels, which doesn't help me at all since I already have those channels.
This means no Spike, Comedy Central, or Nick. It also means, no MTV, VH1, or CMT of those the only one I really care about is MTV2 since they show the Bellatore fights.
Stuff like this just pisses me off. It's billion dollar companies fighting with each other, and it's going to be us the subscribers that pay for this in the end. Neither company is going to lose money for their stockholders so I'm (we) are going to take it in the shorts every month on our bills.
I just took a look at both sides Facebooks just to see what customers were saying. When I went to the Viacoms one I didn't think it was the real viacom facebook. But after looking around it was and holy crap. Viacom is trashing directv HARD.
It is childish but I'm enjoying the ****storm each side is throwing at each other. They should just make an agreement because it does suck for the consumer.
What's worse is that Viacom is being so **** as to pull their shows from online sources as well to prevent DirecTV customers from viewing them online. This was decided after DirecTV was informing customers to pursue online avenues for shows from Viacom.
Both companies have been lobbing very childish campaigns against each other at this point. It makes you wonder if DirecTV has already spent the extra money it would have cost them for Viacom channels trying to handle PR.
EDIT - As Darth mentioned, this is probably the most legitimate reason to use Torrents currently.
Deflagration - Ungiggity - Jointpaper - Pö - Proctologist - Fantastical - Pandarica WoW - L a s t R i t e s - Firetree Too many to play, too little time to do it.
So Dish network is also fighting with a company (AMC) about fees. (AMC says it is about a lawsuit, Dish said AMC wanted more money).
Whoever... but AMC scored points with me unlike Viacom getting pissed off at DirecTv and cutting off all versions of their webcasts, AMC said fu dish and put up a sign in for all dish customers that let them stream the first episode of Breaking Bad, now that is how you treat your customers
Problem resolution - Accept the fact that Dish blows and the pittance of money you save isn't worth putting up with their crappy customer service and equally crappy reception. I dumped them 10 years ago when you still had to pay for equipment and haven't looked back.
"Forums: You have to form your opinions immediately based on jack s*it then fight them to the death! It's like Highlander, but instead of swords we use ignorance."
They are way cheaper than my local cable company. Last year my roof got damaged by hail and I had to have it replaced. When the roofing contractor was done they "helped" me tune in my Sat. It was pretty crappy and only one of them could speak English so I gave up with them and had a buddy come over.
When i got on my roof it turns out that they didn't bolt the Sat down to the roof. I could actually rock the Sat back and forth as the bolts were not long enough in the front.
I called Dish and they no hassle sent someone to my house on Monday, it was Sat when i called. The guy who showed up remounted everything, re-ran a few of the wires because he thought they looked corroded. When he left I have one less Sat on my house (used to have to have two dishes to get local channels) and it actually looked better than when it was first installed 6 years ago. All from a 15 minute phone call where Dish was not at fault in anyway at all.

Right, because I'm sure absolutely nothing has changed in the last 10 years...
In any event, I absolutely love my Hopper, hehe.
They called me their hero, The Hero of Man. But why should we save them
when they stand for nothing? If they deserve life, LET THEM STAND FOR THEMSELVES.
We've given everything we can. There are no heroes left in man.
They'll watch you die to save their lives. They will not stand here by your side.
Been thinking of getting one of them... been hearing good things, but worried about their commercial skipping feature getting sued out of existence :(
Well, the commercial skipping only works on primetime shows the day after they record... with that said, we don't watch those much around my house, so that feature doesn't get used all that much. The 2TB hard drive however, is VERY nice, hehe.

The only thing about Dish is, they and AMC are in the same EXACT fight with each other as Direct and Viacom.
Dish network pulled AMC from their programming after a pricing increase for their programs. And they are involved in the same childish bitchslapping marketing ******** with each other.
That means i'm missing out on Breaking Bad, Waking Dead and my wife misses Mad Men.
On top of that Dish still raised my rate 2 months ago. Even though I now have less channels to pay for.
