I'm completely in favor of the separation of Church and State. My idea is that these two institutions screw us up enough on their own, so both of them together is certain death. - George Carlin
Yargh... my computer has more issues than National Geographic. Today, the DVD-ROM drive just won't show up in Win2k (Or the POST screen, for that matter) and before I call Micron up and ask them for a new one (Hell, I'm probably gonna do that anyway, it's the only thing that either they or I haven't replaced yet, and free upgrades are good mmkay?), I figured I'd ask if y'all would happen to know any possible ways to fix it?
I just reformatted my hard drive again because a) I didn't want to delete all the crap I downloaded folder by folder, and b) because I figured that hell, it couldn't hurt the problem with the DVD-ROM, seeing as how it started with these issues last night... But yeah, I know it's definitely not the cable, as my burner is now on the primary position on the IDE cable now, and I've swapped them around anyway, so I'm rather stumped as to what it is unless it's an issue with the drive itself.

Did you check all the stupid little things that lead to palmprints on your forehead?
Power and data cables plugged in securely. A lady brought her PC in to Best Buy while I was there talking to a friend. The "hard drive died" so she sent it to Compaq and they didn't find anything wrong with it. When she got it back, it still didn't work. One of the zipties was too tight and pulling the power plug out of the drive...
You mentioned swapping devices around, so did you set the jumpers and BIOS correctly?
Very likely it's just the drive itself though. Invissibill
