I have noticed over the years of being a rogue that in a one on one fight agianst a fello "skilled" opponet of the right class is almost impossible to beat (I play on a blue server mind you).
Well things have slowed down on my server and at times it is really hard to get groups when my friends are not online so I have found myself trolling the bazzar arena on a regular basis.
I have been in some pretty nice fights, lots of times I come out on top and shock the other person and sometimes myself.
On with my post, I have found that when we have the element of suprise (in my case jumping in to the arena) we are a VERY powerful class at PvP because of our super fast constant damage.
I usually just stop by and poke my head in the arena and if I see someone who looks like a challenge standing around in the arena i will just rush them and have a stab at them. A few times after I have slayed them they send me tells saying how i cheated by just rushing at them, and several times i get tells saying how they cant belive i was able to kill them that fast.
To the ones who call me a "cheater" i just reply with, well you were standing in the middle of the arena...to me that means you are ready for a fight. If you were not ready you would not be inside the arena standing in the middle.
So do you fello rogues consider me "cheating" by just rushing at them giving it my all? I consider myself to be a sneaky assassin and feel that I am not being a good assassin if i tell the person who is standing in the middle of the arena that i aim to kill them. I dont go hiding around and waiting for them to turn there back, i just run toward arena...stop take a look around...if I see someone who looks like a real challenge I will go in and give it a shot, no greenies or anything just even lvl or higher.
:edit: Kind of made it sound like i turn down fights unless i am able to sneak in on them, which isnt the case I have more "stright up" fights then anything...only time i am able to suprise them is when i first come to arena =)
What level are you and what level are the people you fight?
Casters can usually channel through your attacks and unless you have a snare procing weapon, there's no way to stop them from running.
If they're sitting in the middle of the arena, they're asking for it, disc and pk them but then again im from a pvp server so if you're not in pok, nexus, or bazaar, pvp is expected; nobody warns each other before pvp and afk doesn't make you immune..

That is how i see things also. They are asking for it by being inside he arena standing there...
I am lvl 66 and most people these days are higher lvl then me, been busy at work and have not had time to grind.
With the self dispelling potions i can kill most druids, well geared rangers are still beating me down...but i have gotten better at handling them...i went from being a push over to accually putting up a decent fight.
Most all INT casters drop pretty fast to me, had some trouble with a mage due to the massive stun from his pets and he was on a fast horse.
Other pure melee classes drop pretty easy.
Paladins take forever to kill, but useally die.
Have not had the privilage to take on any SKs or Bards, but im pretty sure what will happen =/ ...with the bard anyway.
Im with you on the whole jumping them while their back is turned. Im all about it accually. Because, unfortunatly im 66 and very modestly geared (VGD/RB, ornate gloves/bp, Kunark arms for str boost) so being sneaky deaky is really my only shot anymore.
Dont get me wrong I love to fight normally too, its just that jumping out of the woodwork and sinking my dagger into an unsuspecting medding mage is alot more fun. Besides, any chance to catch a bard and put 1400 dmg in his ass is worth being called a wuss
(1400 is my highest pvp BS so far, unlucky bard eh?)

"Where are we going and why am I in this handbasket?"
I too play on a blue server and I dont mind saying if I catch your ass in the arena and you look like a worthy challenge and you either a) dont notice me or b) dont give me enough attention, Im gonna get ya. Plain and simple. I dont care if you are AFK; it's your ass for going AFK in the arena on a blue server and you deserved to be killed for assuming that you wouldnt be killed. I make no appologies for this oppertunistic behaviour. Yeah I have gotten bitched at my share of times. . . Actually last time was a 70 druid whining at me for killing her when she wasnt "ready." I was 67 at the time, and she was watching a couple of other ppl duel. I had walked around her once. . . .she knew I was in arena but didnt seem to think it was anything important. I decided if she liked the action so much, maybe she'd wanna be in it. She went down in like 3-7 seconds. She tried to cast savage roots on me, but I resisted, and less than 2 seconds later she was dead and 2 of her friends were trying to kill me. Yeah I decided to make my exit. lol Let me tell you, she was furious! lol! I told her that by being in the arena at all she put a target on her ass and to not be such a whiner when a rogue (the quintissential oppertunist) sneaks up on her, and has their way with her.
Now I do want to make one thing clear. I do NOT attack ppl that have less than 70 pct health, or that are LBlue or lower (unless they ask for it.) I also will never jump a person if they are busy dueling someone else one on one. . . I consider that to be pretty low, and without honor. . .least on a blue server anyway
I once saw a duel between 2 ppl, one a knight (dblue) and the other a bst (Lblue). During a duel, a green rogue hopped into the arena and disc'ed and backstabbed the bst. well I had done a /who command and the bst was like 4-6 lvls below the knight. Bst was prolly gonna lose that duel. . . but to see a fellow rogue to act with such disrespect, and on the weaker of the two combatants, I decided I had to do something. So yeah I hoped in there and did the exact same thing to him. I got him to 20 pct real real quick, and he ran for the exit. I threw an ensnaring concoction and snared and caught up with him, and beat him to unconsiousness. Since he was a fellow rogue, I just wanted to teach him a lesson, and I didnt want him to die, but I did want him to know what it felt like to be ganked the same way he tried to gank someone else. Well, anyway, While he was bleeding, I told him, "Interferring will get you killed." to which he replied very wittingly "fag." LOL, he has no sooner said that than he died. LOL, appearrently I didnt realize the ensnaring concoction that I snared him with has a very very small dot component to it (15 a tic). And apperently he lost exp to that death (must have actually died by bleeding to death; the dot would have kept him from natually healing.)
Your are much nicer than me. I *will* wait for a person to turn thier back. I will also specifically challenge a person to a duel, but I take such evil delight in the random disc'ed BS that I just cant help myself (my best has been 1200+ with duelist.) IMO Rogues are the masters of stealth. If we arent taking full atvantage of this ability, then it would be the same as a monk not using mend. . . and never in a million years would you see a monk not use mend. If a person thinks your "cheating", then they prolly havent ever played on a PvP server and dont realize the extreme idiocy in what they are saying (Cause I know all you ppl on Red servers have been ganked your share of times. . . hell some of you may have been lucky enough to have your corpse camped for a couple of hours ), or they dont understand the essence of being a rogue. It will do you little good to argue with those kinds of ppl. Me personally, I salute you, sir. Keep up the good work!
If someone is engaged in a fight with another (I'm referring to blue server arena), I would never interfere in any way, just because I wouldn't expect others to interfere with me. If someone is standing around, then IMO they are fair game; they present themselves for whoever to come out and attack, and if they are angry afterward, I can't say that I care. However, I am also a firm believer in organized in-arena duels.. in which both people say they are ready and one says "go". And yea, I will also attack someone I see interfering in a duel.

Is there such a thing?
If they are in the arena, then they have basically said go by entering. Now I don't agree with interferring in others duels (unless it's a friend of mine beating the tar out of somebody, then I'll gank them and have a good laugh at them). But other than that it's all good. My favorite is seeing 2 people dueling and some squishy class on the side healing/buffing one of the people fighting. They seem to be some of the ones that get the most upset when you kill them lol.
Of course there is such a thing.. "You ready?" "Yep" "Ok, say go and it starts".
No, you don't have to say anything, but being in a pvp area does not prevent an agreed fight between two+ people for fun (or pride) and to see how they match up against each other. I am not sure how things are done on your server, but on The Tribunal there is a very active pvp/arena community and we generally respect each other. Of course there are some who will generally get attacked if they walk in, but that's another story =o
