Can anyone suggest a free utility to do this? On some things I've just gone back and re-ripped them using CDex and it's normalizing function, but there are some CDs that I lost in a moving a while back so re-ripping them is out.
I just need something free I can feed the mp3 to and normalize the volume. Some of these weren't normalized when made the first time. Was never a problem on the computer speakers, but it's becoming problematic on playback from the iPod.
Ok, after fiddling with iTunes I found I think what you are referring to, in the info window for individual songs.
Unfortunately as with everything else in this window I've found, it doesn't alter the file, just the settings for the file in iTunes and the iPod. Example, putting a track number in the info for a song in iTunes puts the track number in iTunes, but the field in the ID3 tag is still empty.
This has been my one major gripe with iTunes since the beginning.
