I am waiting for Vanguard to see if it can suck me back in. It's the only one that has a chance to do so, since they are leaving in the things that most people hate about EQ1, myself included, that brought us all together. Corpse Runs are a non issue in WoW or EQ2. Mana regen in combat is reduced or nonexistent in WoW/EQ2, YAY less variables in combat (great for devs, crap for players, might as well give me a button that says "autoresolve").
Anyway. Answer is neither, but I MIGHT get WoW to play with friends. I'm resisting. :)
I got stuck with EQ2 kinda against my will because it's the game every one of my RL friends got and I didn't want to be the only one playing WoW instead.
waiting on vanguard also. if buying eq2 but never leaving the boat counts, that's where my money went. i got my name at least and i'm gonna check it out one of these days...

Really? Yikes...my desire to play Vanguard just went from minimal to nonexistent. :(

EQ2 certainly does have corpse runs. If you don't go back for your shard, your character is almost unplayable for a few RL days, because of their reduced stats.
Mana regen is much faster in EQ2 than EQ, but it is also common to run out of mana in combat, unless your group is only fighting groups of green mobs or something.
In EQ2 if you die in most dungeons you have the option of retrieving your shard (corpse) by simply right clicking on the outside door leading into the dungeon. I have yet to come on a circumstance where I couldn't get my shard relatively easily, and believe me it's not for lack of getting killed.
I found them both to be essentially the same game.
I went with EQ II because I'm nostalgic and I know the lore. I never played a Warcraft title prior to WoW, so was completely lost on many of the lore's subtleties.
I enjoyed WoW very much in beta, but Norrath just "works" for me. Familiarity won.
Neither so far. I will wait until after our PCS move (aka end of January) before I decide whether to invest in another time sink. I figured it would allow a lot of the people who only play for a month or three to move along, and hopefully thin out some of the kids. It also allows them to get the game breaking bugs worked out so I do not have to deal with them.
So it all ads up to waiting.
/em wanders off to play some FF1 while he waits for some more games to be released, even though Metroid 2 and MGS 3 are both waiting to be played.
Psik, you CAN regenerate mana in-combat in WoW. You weren't paying much attention when I was taking on that elite, now - were you? I will admit that WoW's death system makes it kind of a non-issue, but I MUCH prefer non-issue to the frustration of lost hours of work we had in EQ.
Wow, good to see alot of ppl not playing both! HEY WHAT DO I DO WITH NY FREE TIME11!!!?
I also skipped both games and am playing neither.
Spent time in beta with both games.
I was impressed but not enough to commit my life to the game like EQ.
EQ2 is to close to EQ1 to be appealing. Plus the graphic bloat doesn't help either.
WoW dropped the ball by creating a game in which is it very easy to get to the max level but they have not released any information about the hero classes or the end game content.
So they expect me to buy the game, get lvl 50 or 60 in two months and then wait for the endgame content to drop from the sky and hope I won't have to wait for the first expansion and pay for it instead.
I beta'd both. WoW was the more impressive of the two for me, but like Freon said, the game was so easy, simple, and quick to advance in I couldn't take it seriously. Maybe I've become a power gamer or something, but when I can do 1/5 the level cap my first day playing, the game is just too damn easy.

I went to EQII :D I really had a problem with how cartoony the WoW charaters were...just my opinion tho some of my friends liked the way WoW looked better than EQII
Most of my time is going to Eve online with the new expansion, but i did pick up EQ2 because i heard good things about it. I will get to WoW eventually.
Also i say that skipping to wait for Vanguard is well, gonna test ones patience :p

This bothered me a little at first too, but the more I've played the more I realize how much I want to play other classes as well as my main. Wasn't really able to do that in EQ, but WOW will allow me to do that. I'm enjoying the hell out of rogues on a nightly basis, and really look forward to playing paladins, shaman, and warlocks as well.
Blizzard is notorious for being slow to deliver sometimes. But I can't think of a time when the wait didn't pay off.
As far as getting to 1/5 of the level cap in one day in WoW...that's not really saying a whole lot. As with any MMORPG, leveling rate slows down considerably.
I've been playing on a normal (go to work, hang with wife, work on the house, play) schedule since release and my hunter is level 22 now. And it's slowing down a lot. The thing is, I plan to play at least 2 or 3 other characters as well, so I'll be engaged for quite a while. During closed beta (and I got in rather early), I got a mage to 42, a hunter to 40 and a few other classes to around 18. That was over many months (maybe 6 or 7?). No, I wouldn' t worry about it going too fast. I know it may seem strange coming from EQ, but it's a very different game.
The only thing I don't like about the speed of levelling is how easy it makes it to get behind your friends. I was out of town for Thanksgiving weekend (thurs-sun) and unless my friends stop levelling completely for a few days (not likely anytime soon!) my girlfriend and I are hopelessly behind and unable to play with them. :P
