Dear Rogues, Uncle Buckleburen Wants You!
Reply With Quote   #1

I have decided to start a guild called Lurid Sojourn. Why did I pick Lurid Sojourn? It was a name that popped into my head while writing a screenplay. I am an aspiring writer/director/producer but I also have a great passion for MMORPGs. I am an all around entertainment man. So let me start off with a little Q and A.

Q: So what type of a guild will Lurid Sojourn be?

A: First, I would like to tell you something that may be disheartening to some parts of the community. Lurid Sojourn will be comprised of only the short races of Thestra. Sorry Humans, High Elves, Half-Giants, Barbarians, and Vulmanes.

Q: Will Gnomes be allowed to join?

A: Right now Sigil has not released information about Gnomes (Sorry Glip :/) However, as Sigil fleshes out alpha more into a beta, and as beta develops into the full version with expansion packs I do expect more small races to pop up. At the event that a small race does go live, they will have a home with us.

Q: How will Lurid Sojourn compete with other guilds if they only have two races at the start? Sigil has announced that different races will have different availabilities as far as classes go.

A: Thats a good question, but I am assuming that the Dwarf and Halfling races will have the necessary classes needed. I could imagine this will allow us to have Warriors, Rogues, Clerics, Druids and Paladins. We really do not have much information about the classes, so I don't know if our races will have a crowd control class. But you know what? This disadvantage will make the game more challenging to us. Limitations always inspire creativity and it will be fun getting things done different than from other people.

Q: How many people are you looking to recruit?

A: We will want a good core of 35 to 40 people who are always on. As long as those people are always on and willing to make daily progresses, we should be good. I won't rule out having 60 players, but that looks like it will be the temporary cap.

Q: What type of members are you looking for?
A: We are looking for people who are good at what they do. We are looking for rogues who, in the past, led the pack and were looked up to. We are looking for healers who have had a good record of being at a lot of raids, being not too greedy, and being able to step it up if (That's a big if) all hell brakes loose. We are looking for skilled warriors who know how to manage mob movement and actively offtank. We are looking for great people to be with, who don't get pissy, who never give up, and who have a great sense of humor. We want people who would be good enough friends and enjoy each other's company enough to hang out in bars. We want people who believe it is the guild what ultimately makes the game a great experience.

Q: How will you deal with crowd control and pulling issues?
A: That will be the fun of it. Dealing with limited situations and use creativity. This doesn't mean we will "zerg" rush. This doesn't mean we run into battles like chickens with their heads cut off.

Q: Will this guild be hardcore?
A: A good 70% of the guild will be very hardcore. The remaining 30% will probably be people who are good friends but have to deal with real life issues more than most. This doesn't mean we will have 40 players all maxed out and invite 20 players who are only level 16. We expect those who join us who have real life in the way to catch up as much as they can or already be maxed out when they join us (If there is any room left).

Q: Will this guild roleplay?
A: We will encourage it, but you won't be penalized if you don't.

Q: Does this guild have a website?
A: It is in the works. It will include the basic common stuff. A Roster, Application Rules, Guild Loot/Attendence rules, Forums, meaningful links, etc...

We are going to also update the world with news and pictures of our accomplishments. We also plan to hold the unofficial forum for the server we are on. We also plan to have a roleplay forum, and a section for each classes.

Q: What is the most important rule for your guild that must always be kept?
A: To have fun in a mature fashion. A close second is to never ever ever ever allow races taller than Dwarves in /smile

Q: If I want to join now, what should I do?
A: Visit our Ezboards here: http://p097.ezboard.com/fluridsojour...opicID=3.topic

Thank you for taking your time to read this. If you don't want to apply, that's cool. Hope to see you in game!

Edit: Updated Rules:

* Members who violate the EULA agreement will be subjected to guild removal. Purchasing or selling in game property for real life money is prohibited!
*All members must exhibit signs of maturity and have a positive attitude. A suggested age of 18 and older is desired but not enforced.
* All prospective members will undergo a month of required embarrassing situations. During this probation period, the player must exhibit clear consistencies with our guild culture and have a knack for their class.
*Prospective members are required to stick to a stout race.
* Prospective members are required to stick with a main character.
*Prospective members who have secondary characters that are not stout, may not have their secondary characters join the guild. Members may not give items won at raids to unguilded members. Uneeded equipment must be offered to guild members. Uneeded equipment may be traded or sold in game only if no one else will need.
*Role-playing is encouraged but will not be strictly enforced.
*Prospective members must be able to raid between 7p.m to 12 midnight EST on weekdays. Expect longer raids on the weekends.
* Prospective members must be willing to never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever give up on a raid or guild group.
*Prospective members must be aware of the responsibilities of carrying Lurid Sojourn above your heads. You may not take actions that will sully the character of our guild.
*Prospective members must have fun!
*Prospective members are equally important as guild officers.

No Barbarians! Fie on ye!

/oc Single race guilds are a lot of fun. Good luck! Stick around and post as well, let others get to know ye and they'll be more likely to join.

And do forgive the cracks on yer aspirations - better to have them than to have none in my opinion.

Not that you CAN'T if you wanna...but why now?

I seriously don't understand why you are asking me about beta. Sorry.

But, I am forming a guild now because I want to spend a year or more getting to know the personalities of the people I will be teamed with. Besides, it is easier to start early than late.

Wanting to get to know people I can understand. I disagree about it being easier to start early than late though - I mean, one would expect that the more knowledge you have about how things will run, the easier it would be to accomplish your goals and know what exactly you need.

Not that I'm knocking starting early. It's quite the overachiever thing to do. But I can't agree about it being easier.

Also, the elitist in me complains, that by starting the guild before the game is playable you can't be sure that your proposed members are skillful enough to make joining your guild seem desirable to random people who group with them. You also can't be certain that people who sign up for your guild before it's possible to have a reputation (as the game isn't playable) will develope a good reputation keeping in tune with standard, nonlame policies.

But, I did admit I was an elitist, didn't I?

I realize the pitfalls of starting early. But I never mentioned the requirements I will use to judge which players get the probie invite and which players get a decline. I am not going be to letting everyone and their mother in as a probie. I am not also going to let every probie become a member. Right now if you look at my website, there are only 23 available roster spots right now.

Starting a guild a year or two early for something like SWG would of course be tough. But I have faith in Vanguard. This is the first time I have had faith in a game before release, so I am not going to hesitate. This is just my opinion and my gut feeling.

I remember the months before eq entered public beta. People tried to do this stuff. I remember some guy boasting 500 people in his guild before they were allowing public testing.

I wonder what happened to his guild.

Those were the days, We're goin to kick so much ass but we dont eve know if we'll be good at this game wooo.

People tried to do this stuff? You are saying that as if I am doing something the way other people did. I am not boasting anything and I sure am not saying "we're goin to kick so much ass but we dont eve know if we'll be good at this game" or anything else you would like to portray my guild as.

I havent portrayed your guild as anything, all I said is that I remember guilds that tried to form before a game has even started and wondered where they were now.

I asked the Question about Beta...BECAUSE I have never heard of a Guild forming up outside of a game.

I now understand WHAT you are trying to do.

My sister guild on Fennin Ro is the oldest RP guild on our server named DeVir and is strictly a DE, Troll, and Ogre RP guild. We have alot of fun with our ebils . DeVir has been around since beta, it is one of the few guilds that has been around that long on Fennin. And as far as I know the only active RP guild left. Sepulchre of Shadows (my guild) encourages RP but does not require it. DeVir is still hard core RP.

And heads up to those coming from Torvo, if you are interested in a RP guild shoot me a tell. The GL of DeVir is my RL fiance.

The funniest thing I've ever seen in EQ was a Guild of only Gnomes. They staged a Sit In at the small bank in PoK. There were like 50 Gnomes all sitting in front of the door and they were saying rude things to all of the rest of us. I was laughing so hard I was crying.

My fondest memory of short races in EQ happened at a Plane of Sky raid. The dwarf dressed in a mixture of Cobalt, incarnadine bp, and indicolite led the congo line with /duck. Followed him was a dwarf pally, a dwarf cleric, two dwarf rogues, one halfling druid, one halfling warrior, and one misplaced necro gnome. They took the congo line right off the side. And to our amazement, one of them managed to 10k himself on one of those chains.
This happened pre-velious.

I noticed in your application you only ask for previous EQ characters/guild/experience information. Are you specifically looking only for EQ veterans?

On a side note I was in an all-female-toon guild once (Maidens of the Blade on EQ Saryrn). I was actually naive enough at first to believe they were all women in real life, a notion which was quickly dispelled.

One of the more successful guilds on my DAoC server was an all-dwarven guild called "Champions of Haggerfal". They had a long history in EQ and are now in WoW as well, their new website is:
