Neat! I love chess. Computers clearly think about it much differently than I do, however

Hey, I managed to get a draw. Unfortunately, it seems like it was a pity draw, as a retarded monkey could've finished me off:

yeah, no way with 2 rooks and a queen still on the board should that have been a draw

Now, if it'd gotten rid of all but your king, then it'd have 21 moves to get you in checkmate, else it would be a stalemate

that is checkmate in 2 moves

queen up 1 for check, only moves for king is down 1 or diag down 1, rook down 2 for checkmate.

Or top-most rook to the right one then down to the line that the king is on.

whooped my arse 8 times now.

I'm terrible at chess to begin with, but it's fun doing random things just to make it 'think' for a minute solid, only to make some equally random move.

Otherwise, it wins in about 10-12 turns... took me out in 6 once. That hurt.

I lasted about 20-25 turns in the single game I just played while at work. I might do better with more time to think and less chances of being disturbed by some nosing co-worker.

In Germany, it's not weird to find your coworker looking at heinous porn during office hours. It is very embarassing, however, if they are caught playing chess!

I got a draw. I had a lot more of my pieces left, and so did the computer, but he got stuck in a loop putting my king in check with a knight.

I could move my king one square to get out, he'd move the knight and put me in check. I'd move the king back to where he was, he'd move the knight back to where it was. Repeat endlessly.

Sounds like the computer isn't very good, actually, as far as chess-playing computers go, if it's getting caught in loops like that and giving draws when checkmate is only 2 moves away, etc.

Yeah, it's easy to tell there's no reduncancy-checking and shearing going on, just the relatively basic recursive routine.

They could've trimmed down a LOT on AI decision-making time (as well as effectiveness in achieving a win) without adding or altering much code.

Pfft. I had him right where I wanted him. I was just lulling him into a false sense of security, then I was going to pounce! I forgot to mention that I still had four cards in my hand and only one in my graveyard, plus my pawn still had its 'special attack' ready to go!

I'm not sure I was playing the same game he was though.

You had that Fireball all ready to go, huh? But you just couldn't get in that last turn?

Sucks. :(

I whupped him good this time, but I was cheated out of any sort of 'You Win!' type deal when the computer refused to do his move (I moved the rook and then nothing happened):

I began trading chess pieces with him (leave mine in a position to be taken, but covered by a piece that would then take his), then I started attacking with my king. He covered a pawn on its way to become a queen which force the computer to use his rook to take out the pawn (then my king took the rook). From there it was a matter of using another newly created queen and my last rook to corral the king.
