Eulogy for a friend........
Reply With Quote   #1

Durden shuffles to the front of the crowd. He tries to speak, but his voice cracks. He looks up, and everyone can tell that he is distraught. He eyes are bloodshot, his lower lip quivers and this time the words come out but are barely audible.

Ladies and gentlemen of the Safehouse, it is with great regret that I inform you all that my good friend and comrade Igbot has decided to leave Norrath. He's not the kind to make a fuss himself, so I wanted to inform you all.

This day will mark a dark day on Rodcet Nife, for one of our elders is now gone.

Truely heartbroken, Durden turns and sits down to contemplate what to do now.

Reply With Quote   #3

Hullo,

Wix and Igbot. Ouch. Rodcet is poorer by the day.

I've phased out actually playing Shadowfoot (22 Rogue) and Huntress (35 Ranger) and now treat EQ like a chat room when (if) I log on. The "game" continues to devolve, and though I care not for it any longer I do care for its community. And I hate to see it lose some of its best. You guys will be sorely missed.

Rodcet is a FANTASTIC community. It is, IMHO, the best blue server Rogue community, and one of the top Ranger communities. I'm proud to have been a small part of it and mourn the passing of some of the bigger parts of it like Wix and Igbot.

Wix, I *think* I first encountered you with Huntress when Benolas and I were camping the Cask in Black Burrow. Since then, I have hung on Benolas' words of some of your nutty antics. Shadowfoot talked with you some, but never got to meet you "in the flesh".

Igbot, Huntress always dreamt of buying some nutty Gnome invention from you, like one of those wonderful rebreathers. Well, I never got the plat, but you were top of my "must meet" list. And believe me, I hear stories.

*salute*.

Shadowfoot

P.S.: Do we need an Ehrynn v. Mideon smackdown to cheer up our server?

=(

Back when i had my ranger, Igbot was almost a youngin(well not quite, maybe 20s-30s). He would always sell his tinkered stuff around.. I talked to him a few times

(As EtherDais, that was my name)

This is all really sad. =( I decided i'm quitting too.. All i really enjoy is the interaction with you guys(admittedly few of you even know me) but i'll miss you all.
I'll stick around the board though... it's my homepage =P

This is TOO MUCH!!! I can't believe this, too many are leaving because Verant couldn't even make poison useful, or even keep it the same, and they had 6 MONTHS TO DO IT! Farewell Igbot, you will be remembered.

Thanks guys.

BTW.. I quit before the poison patch. My quitting had nothing to do with that.

I suppose it had something to do with real life, but I rightfully could have used that excuse months ago.

I really quit because I joined this game with 5 RL friends (who still play). And despite rogues being "balanced", "worthwhile", etc. -- I was a burden to them when we grouped.

I am completely disgusted with Verant's idea that rogues are ok (and their recent propaganda telling people - "try rogues, their awesome"). The final kicker was I finally convinced myself that there will be no fix. I hoped for something for over a year. Melee will forever be ridiculously imbalanced with casters.

To say that a rogue and a necro are "balanced" in Everquest is so incomprehensible it makes one wonder how the game designers can figure out how to get to work in the morning.

I've moved onto other games. Thanks to all in the safehouse, it was a wealth of great information.

BTW, this is not a "break" from EQ. Igbot made his last camp. All his stuff is gone (given to a RL friend for trades/etc).

look for Ig's in future games.

cheers
Iggy

From one of those RL friends, Igbot you were not a burden. At least not to me. In some respects you were the glue to our whole group. The news of your final camp came as a surprise to me, since I was on a business trip to the West Coast. This hit me like a ton of bricks! IMO, Igbot was one of the most colorful characters on Rodcite Nife (I think the entire rogues community is incredible BTW, good roleplaying everyone). Ask anyone on RN where you can buy something tinkered. Guess what all the 46+ people will say. Give Iggy a tell!! You were internationally known as well as liked. I think this is an end of the EQ era for me as well. I dont think EQ will ever be the same.

Hullo,

Igbot hit the nail on the head. And I could *swear* you were channeling Benolas when you were typing, 'cause you sure say the same things.

The game is BROKEN. Fundamentally flawed. It will NEVER be fixed. All melee-infighting is irrelevant compared to the caster-melee imbalance. I could go through the VERY long list of why it is unbalanced, but you guys know it well...

Verant has NO intentions of ever fixing it. They stick to their darn Vision (tm) no matter what. It is pretty slick, actually. They made being a meleer such a pain in the butt that you *have* to be stubborn and *want* to be it. Then, they can kick you in the jimmy over and over and you likely won't walk. Why? 'cause your stubborn! I don't blame Igbot or anyone for walking, heck, I've done the same. You can only take so much.

As Benolas has said to me: The game should be balanced around a Warrior. Most people should be melee types. Being a caster should be EXTREMELY difficult. Numbingly so. Verant did just the opposite. The end result is they have to balance monsters agains insanely powerful (and yes, they are) casters, leaving meleers SOL when it comes to doing, well, most things in the game. 'specially soloing.

As for me, I think there is a magic in MMORPGs that can't be found in single-player games. It has to do with the people. Not only those you group with every day, but those that you used to group with and get separated by levels. And those that are legends -- Igbot (and Wix, to mention another recent departure).

I'll play another MMORPG. But it won't be class-based. Skill-based, by its fluid nature, ensures that you don't get penalized a year worth of play because you didn't KNOW that their Vision (tm) of Rogues is screwed. Or that Rangers post-50 aren't meant to do the things they did pre-50. And the game won't be a Verant game. /rude.

Please, let's stay together as a community while we wait for the better games! Imagine how great it will be when we can get ALL the good people (everyone who posts here, naturally *wink*) on the SAME server!

As I am having to say much too often in these times of trouble:

Farewell, you will be missed greatly.

Thanks,
Shadowfoot

As another of the 5 friends Iggy spoke of, I would like to say a few words.

Igbot, you were one of the great characters on Rodcet Nife. Not because you were insanely powerful, but because you were always so much fun to play with. I remember playing in Unrest back in our 20s. I would spend my time watching your health bar hoping to save you when you were pulling from the house. I look back and laugh still when I remember seeing your famous 'Opps' or 'Oh @#%$' as you realize a pull had just gone bad.

What you did was inject a lot of fun and humor into the game for me. Without that, I don't know if I would have continued to play this long. I know my days in Norath are numbered because one of my sources of fun in the game is gone.

With that I bid adieu to my favorite mana sponge.

Goodbye Igbot, you will be missed.

Bye Igbot, you spoke rightly.

I feel the same. EQ life on rogue has been an unnecessarily harsh one.

We rogues percieve us as burden to others because of lack of real utility we offer, in comparison to amount of utility we need to SURVIVE from others.
All we have is some damage and occasional CR to offer.

This restricts waays too much.

Salutes to an old companion
Reply With Quote   #19

Igbot,

Know that the day we met is still fresh in my memory. I was wandering Butcher block probably searching for a pristine scarab shell so that I could obtain a rare and much sought after scarab breastplate when that foul ogre Zimbittle happened on me. She would have had my toes for soup if you had not been wandering past. With a blur of a blade thrust you showed me that not all rogues are halflings, and in turn I showed you that not all halflings were rogues (or druids!).

I remember how you joined me in my quest for the most perfectest of scarab shells and together with your group we braved Unrest in search of Death beetles which were rumored to have especially fine shells.

Even as a large group we could barely slay the death beetles which fed on the rotten corpses and debris in that Estate. In truth, the first time I entered that cursed place, my heart trembled as I saw the corpses of fallen heroes, all of whom far exceeded us in might.

Well, I grow nostalgic. These days it seems that my arms grow weary too. I hope that my rambling have brought a smile to your face.

May your dagger be sharp and your reflection shadey.

Fimbalkin ~ halfling warrior

OOC - The news of your departure from EQ is saddening news indeed. Even so I am glad that you have found alternative pastimes which have the ability to capture your imagination and I hope that you enjoy them every bit as much as you once enjoyed EQ. I'm not playing much nowadays, not even as the 'powerlevelling druid'

Oh the nostalgia. I remember being very young and in Befallen late one night, bored and actually picking locks (back when the only place to open locks was Befallen and Najena). Well I'm picking the lock to the first door and boom it opens and reveals the studliest little gnome (I'm giving you this one cause you're retiring Ig ) wielding this big spear (hehe way back when Ig was using a GIP). I remember being kinda dumbfounded and speechless since there were two known rogues on Rodcet at the time and both of them I looked up at with a little hero worship. One of them was of course Igbot and that's who was in front of me.

A few pleasantries later he slipped out with a nice emote (and which I kinda copied in homage )) and left the dungeon, unsure I'm certain of how much happier he'd made a slightly depressed young rogue that night.

Farewell Ig and best of luck to you in everything. You truly are one of the legends.

sigh, sorry to finally post Here Igbot, I remember trying to keep up with you with Sugoi and finally deciding you where the better gnome, was always wanting to get one of you telescopes when I could afford it and now....I never will, you have always been a font of info and a good influence on the rogue community. In Honor of you I have remade Sugoi the gnome rogue. Err, but I wonder when I will get to play him since playing a rogue and keeping up with the rest of the guild takes all my play time.
