******* OUCH!

I was helping my boss unload a small generator from the back of his truck this morning. I had my hand under the generator when one of its wheels slipped off the tail gate and crushed my finger. I was already numb from the cold and it didn't look too bad when I took my glove off to look at it. Ten minutes later after hooking up some heaters the blood had soaked through my leather glove. I drove back to my lab and washed the wound and applied a gauze. I don't deal well with my own blood so I nearly passed out. Boss and I talked about it and decided to go to the ER "just in case".

I had to pee in a cup.

I declined stitches because getting stitches is a medical procedure and would bring MSHA down on our ass. The cut was exactly 1cm long so I had a choice. Slapping a bandage on it is considered first aid and and hopefully not reportable. They will still have to look into it.

So here I sit hitting backspace every other word because I'm wearing a huge gauze condom on my left middle finger. I can't get it wet. I know I'm going to hit it.

A reportable incident is an injury that requires medical attention. Reportable incidents can lead to investigations and other fun things like fines etc.

It doesn't even hurt today but it's one of those things when dealing with a corporation. You have to document everything. If we hadn't gone to the ER and it got infected I'd be screwed when it comes to workmans comp.

I can pretty much get it when ever I want if I ask nice enough or try hard enough, but sometimes it's easier to just take things into your own hands and avoid the mess.
