I stumbled across this following some links from VGCats.

As the title says, it's so cute it melts my eyes.

It came from a supermegapopular series with legions of rabid fanboys. That pretty much explains it. As more people find out about it, they too perpetuate the Hare Hare Yukai in new ways, causing a non-stop circle of fanmade content and rediscovery.

In short, it's gonna be a around a loooong time.

I remember seeing a bunch of shaven-headed monks dancing down Newbury street in Boston singing Hare Hare Krishna. That was back in 1998, though.

Kinda what len said. But this was the first anime to do the BEST fully animated dance in anime. B4 this one most dance intros where horrible. Don't think its famous for its music as much as its dance animation.

I finally kicked Suzumiya up to the top of my years-long Netflix queue after my Dad recommended it. Only watched the first couple of discs so far, but umm, yeah, it deserves a few rabid fanboys.

Your DAD recommended it?

What kind of fantasy-world do you live in?

But yeah the money required to make that kind of dance is nothing short of spectacular. Not to mention later in the series they did a full band song complete with guitar, drums, etc. The animation involved was nothing short of revolutionary for this genre.

Which is why everyone and, apparently, their DADS?!?!?!!!!!WTF!! know about it.

He's not completely gone yet, he still prefers dubs to subtitles (although I pointed him to AnimeSuki a couple months ago, so that may have changed). But, yeah, Dad.

Oddly enough, that video syncs nearly perfectly with Hey by Red Hot Chili Peppers (which is what's playing on my notebook as I watch the video)...

As for the Macarena, I hated it the first time around. Now I see kids (13 to 17) in my daughter's youth group dancing to it on a weekly basis.

Yeah, wtfdad. That dad must either be an uber geek or totally ****ing awesome.

The only problem I had with Haruhi Suzumiya was how to watch it, **** is so confusing. One rip had it ordered in chronological order, the other has it in the order it was aired. I need to watch the one that is in aired order, since the other one's subtitles were shitty as all hell (confusing, all the same colour for multiple voices, some cultural notes also in the same colour, and like 7 different sub options with no descriptions. Was a DVD rip).

I disagree, to be honest. At least, not for watching it in TV airing order. I don't normally recommend the anime over the manga or novel, but in this case the experience is so unique watching it in TV airing order that I can't justify reading the novel.

The novel can wait! Now, if you were planning to watch in chronological order, then I think novels are better.

Much as I would love to, my Japanese comprehension is very low.

Given the popularity of the series here in the states, any chance they're going to translate and export?

There's a fan translation somewhere on the internet.

Yeah Toprem, it was pretty confusing, but people recommended I watch it in aired order first. Did a quick search on wikipedia, found the order of episodes in which it was aired, and I watched them like that. A++ would watch at work again

Yeah, I saw that entry and thats how I learned about the ordering (I had been wondering why the DVD rip one showed two "next episodes") . It still confused the **** out of me.

Ill probably be burned at the stake for this but I prefer Azumanga Daioh dubbed. The original voices just sound too harsh to my ears for some reason. Maybe its because I watched the dub originally and the voices seemed so mellow.

How exactly does that **** translate into the dub? Stuff like that has got to be completely lost in the dubbing process, especially if they don't explain it on the DVD when watching it in Japanese.

When I was flipping through channels and got to CN while Bleach was on, Karin and Jinta were fighting about who got to be "red" with no explanation as to what it meant. God, I don't see why companies that dub stuff don't do it like fan subbers do.

I don't think I could watch it dubbed, Osaka is just too damn perfect in Japanese. I really need to go back and finish watching the series, I think I only watched like five or so episodes of it.

Now see, I prefer the dub for the same reason: Osaka just isn't the same.

As for the puns, if there's a reasonable English facsimile they take it, otherwise they don't even try. That Okinawa episode had plenty of parts where I went "Huh?", hit rewind and switched languages (which did not always help). It also had about two pages of translation notes in the DVD liner.

I just loaded up the first video of it in English with Osaka (from episode 1), she sounds like a damn country bumpkin. I guess I don't hear the subtleties of it in Japanese, being unable to really differentiate b/w Japanese regional accents and what not.

From what my roommate tells me Osaka(the city) is considered a bit bumpkin in Japan and so them giving her that accent in the dub is spot on.

How many seasons of AMD are there anyway? I swear im seeing clips from episodes Ive never seen before.

Only one season of AzuDi, 26 eps.

And Osaka-ben isn't really an "accent"- its basically a dialect. I can understand standard Japanese fairly well (well enough that I could probably watch easier shows without subs), but basically can't understand Osaka-ben at all, it's that different.

I'd just like to thank the anime forum posters for once again making me feel ashamed to be an anime forum poster by putting this thread where the normies can see it.

This couldn't have been some kickass Naruto fight thread you posted here. No, you gotta make the thread that devolves into the "who can post the gayest thing from AD" here.

Um...we have Power Rangers in America you know. Everyone knows the Red ranger is the leader.

It's not that hard to get. Certainly nothing that someone who watches Bleach wouldn't pick up on.
