I encounter a rare thing last saturday night when I took a few pepople down to kill ancients in ST. We killed Vyskudra the Ancient and Tjudawos the Ancient and the usual crap droped. So we moved on to Kildrukaun the Ancient, the one that slows melee and he droped Besmirched Mask of Conception x2, Yes thats correct 2 Dorf masks. How freaking rare is that 1 in like 10,000 spawns or so?
It's been years since I've raided ST, and recently (as in, most of the winter/spring) I 6-boxed the ancients, hoping for the dwarf mask I never caught up with when we raided there.
If I remember correctly, there was one raid I went on where one mask dropped; it went to another rogue for whom it was an upgrade (yes, it was that long ago, haha). A second raid, which I couldn't attend, had two drop from the same dragon...both rotted. Many raids later, with none dropping, we "outgrew) ST and I hadn't been back in years.
In January, I came back to EQ, after a 3 year absence. I started 6-boxing the ancients when I had time and they were up. I cleared them maybe 10 to 15 times over several weeks, with no masks dropping. When I finally did get the mask to drop, 2 were on the corpse. I announced them in the server rogue channel and left ST, presumably for good.
I don't think it's all that rare for 2 to drop, only slightly more rare than having one drop. I think if one drops, a second one is quite a bit more likely to drop as well...must be some quirk with the loot tables. The other loot from the ancients seem to fall that way as well...the quest drops for the various classes seem to drop that way also.
Been Killing these off and on with a Bard and young rogue friend for a few weeks...
Finally, we had 3 masks drop one Saturday morning. Two for rogues and the third was going to rot as I couldn't fine another guildee to come pick it up. Ended up announcing it to general chat and led some bard down so it didn't rot.
