New use for stem cells found

Stem cells used for bigger breasts.

WASHINGTON, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- In one of the latest uses of human stem cells, cosmetic surgeons in Japan and Europe are using them for breast augmentation. Some surgeons in the United States also have begun using the procedure, The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.
Advocates say the procedure, which uses fat harvested from elsewhere in a woman's body fortified with stem cells, results in breasts that look and feel more natural than those with silicone implants. But doctors worry the procedure may produce long-term problems, including breast cancer.
Surgeons have tried to use fat to enlarge breasts for decades. But the fat would die.
Advocates say stem-cell fortification allows the fat to develop blood vessels. Because the injected substance comes from the patient's body, she will not reject it.
The Food and Drug Administration has not yet made a decision on the procedure. The FDA has no jurisdiction over surgical procedures but says fat mixed with stem cells would come under its purview.
Anyone want to bet that the ban gets lessened now?

Figure out a way for them to make old rich white men retain an erection longer and it would take even less time to get more money for research.

These would be adult stem cells, not embryonic, which aren't banned. And as I understood it, embryonic stem cell research isn't banned either, merely the public funding.

Dang, you beat me to it. That's totally on the money. If they found out that stem cells could be used to create a more potent version of Viagra, the bans on its research would be lifted tomorrow.

Ever see some of those commercials for boner pills where the guy says something like, "I knew I had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and a family history of heart disease, but when my doctor told me those things could also cause ED, I knew I had to do something."

Stem cell research != Embryonic Stem Cell Research.

Well now, that's just sexist, isn't it?

Public funding for embryonic stem cell research outside pre-existing lines (which are degenerate, pretty much) is banned, yes.
