Warlords Bane??
Reply With Quote   #1

So I have been using the plain slow level 40 vendor version. And almost always it's partially slowed the creatures. This could be because of the type monsters I fight, but also to do w/ only using a level 40 poison (I think?)

Anyway, my question is, since I am only partially slowing, if I use Warlords Bane (slow and cripple) and partly slow, will the slow be just as effective as the Myrmadon's Sloth?

I know normally it's not as effective , but thats probably assuming you get a full slow off.

All mobs since forever mitigate slow.

They either partially, slightly or fully resist it (50%, 75% or 100% resist).

If you are fighting lblues/dblues, you will mostly see "partial" resists in which case - whatever poison / slow you were using has been reduced by 50%. The best slow in the game is around 70%, so the absolute best you can hope for, even as a chanter/shaman is 35% these days, and it is often less.

The best rogue slow is 68% - which would reduce to 34% and the common CLass VI slow is 45% - which would reduce to 22.5%

The best Warlord's Bane slow is 34% - which would reduce down to 17%

The biggest problem I have found so far is that all of the bane poisons are a minimum of 30% resisted outright, even when using the "right" level poison.

Unless you are a min/maxer as described by NGreth the risk/reward is just not worth it. You will likely see no measurable differences in damage to you when soloing when using these utility poisons. A mob that could kill you without the bane poison will still kill you with the bane poison.

With the drop rates hopefully being increased this week (not announced specifically) there might be an opportunity to actually get a decent supply of non-vendor utility poisons appearing on mobs and in the marketplace.

What is needed on utility poison drops is:
a). an increase in drop rates. I would even argue for higher level mobs to drop them more often as they have a designed 50% minimum failure rate on combine.
b). a decrease in resist mods with a corresponding tweak increase in hate so they are not overpowered in groups (not really viable at all in raids).

Well, you answered my question.

However, not all mobs resist slow. Revamped Blackburrow you can fully slow mobs.

Not sure what other zones/mobs as I don't play shaman.

I'm pretty sure the way it works is a little different than Catweazel's explanation. Any given mob that mitigates slow will always mitigate it, and at the same %. When you cast a slow spell on a mob that mitigates, the message is "Your spell was mostly/partially/slightly successful." I know that the mitigation effect fractionalizes the spell effect - if Catweazel has that part right the figures are probably 3/4, 1/2, and 1/4 respectively. A full resist is a different animal altogether - it doesn't have anything to do with mitigation, just means that you failed the resist check on that cast.

Typically, a slow spell cast on most "standard" mobs in a given zone will be mostly/partially successful, and named mobs in that zone will only be partially/slightly slowable.

I believe Catweazel is correct in that only the slow portion of a combo debuff is affected when a mob mitigates slow.

Has anyone done any parsing to see whether it's better to use slow or accuracy debuff poison?
