The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in the mind at the same time, and still retain the ability to function. -F.Scott Fitzgerald
I bet the most used phrase that night was "No, I'm not a smurf..." .
no, only one person asked before the contest what I was and he didnt ask if I was a smurf. the guy next to him said something about Beast would have been his guess.

Drat, too bad. I can see why cult film costumes would be an effective strategy with that audience (I only know what a Zardoz is in the sense that Google knows what Zardoz is).

Some guy behind me that was up there for the costume contest did give me a YAY! though.
Its a great movie if you ever get the chance to see it as a midnight movie. They use the trailer a lot before midnight movies, probably the most popular one in the collection of trailers. They finally had it as a midnight movie earlier this year, **** was hilarious with everyone there. Thing is, most of the people in the theatre for this costume contest didn't look like regulars, I know there was a good deal of them near me that weren't.
I wanna know how France is known to the ponies, but seemingly no other country is. Wtf happens in the French version of this episode when the Fleur cutie mark appears?
Booo for that TARDIS not being a woman! Everyone knows that the TARDIS is female.
OH wait, so are most MLP, aren't they?

It's for this reason that I refuse to enter the meta world of the My Little Pony fans. I see that entire culture as an endlessly repeated joke about, "I'm a 25-year-old man, and I watch My Little Pony. Can you believe that, guys? I'm crazy!" It may be more than that; those people may actually be watching the show because it's brilliant and cutting edge. I'll never know because the ironic humor phenomenon is so irritating to me that I avoid it altogether. It's like the Old Navy chain basing their entire image around the idea of, "Look how ridiculously awful this commercial is! Tell your friends so you can all laugh at how dorky we are!"
Thank god I wasn't actually mid bite of my waffles, I almost choked without having food in my mouth when that happened, I can only imagine that Id be dead now if I had taken a bite.
Oh wtf? Second episode isn't just a repeat of the one that just aired, its the one from two weeks ago. I wanted to catch that again and actually take it all in.
And they actually made her, like, mentally challenged. That's surprising.
Not just that, they actually called her Derpy, thats amazing. They haven't officially used names people have given background ponies, hell even Lyra which is an obvious name is called Heartstrings or something stupid when it comes to the toys.
edit: Its also interesting to see people complaining / debating / whatever about her being full blown retard or just clumsy. I've always thought of her as retarded, that doesn't mean I don't love the character and haven't wanted to hear her talk for ages now.
The amount of horrible diseases that the people who brought this about deserve to catch does not actually exist in nature, someone needs to bio engineer new ones for these ****ers to catch. RD even sounds ****ed up at the beginning, like the slowed her voice down to try and sync with the animation or something. Thats some hack job **** here.
Cutting her name is a shame, but the old voice really was a bit much. They should have just started with this one.
No, it was no worse than any other dumb male character. ****, it was better than the stereotypical dumb male since she didn't sound nearly as dumb as some of them, hell any of them.
Humm, can't say I recall any of the male characters' voices, but perhaps that skates by simply because of the web of references involved. You're about three steps removed from an actual developmental disability when you love him and pet him and name him George.

Still, if Derpy had started out with the new voice, no one would have thought twice about it.
The really dumb one from Ed, Edd, and Eddy
Patrick from Spongebob
Cheese from Foster's
Billy from Billy and Mandy
Goofy
Any horribly southern character
****, Snips and Snails from MLPFIM sound pretty damn dumb
No one complains about that stuff, but they gave us a little fan service and some people totally flipped their **** because they thought she sounded dumb, despite virtually all fan art portraying her as clumsy and dumb. That new voice is dog **** compared to the old one, not just because it takes away from the character, but because it just doesn't sound good.
I'm not saying it's an unusual character type, I'm saying it's a male archetype, and attaching it to a female was jarring.
The female equivalent that springs to mind first is the ditzy blonde, but that's all kinds of toxic in a show aimed at little girls... Ok, TV Tropes has pages and pages and pages of Cute Clumsy Girl subtypes, and the moe overtones on a lot of them fit well with Derpy's fandom presence. The writers would have been better served with one of those. It might have taken a little more time to establish her, no obvious accent for those archetypes, but I doubt that would have caused any complaints.
Which doesn't change the fact that most of its fans aren't or that this change was ********.
Look, you "bronies" can't simultaneously get your kicks from flaunting your love of a little girl's cartoon and yet demand that it caters to your tastes.
