He hoped and prayed that there wasn't an afterlife. Then he realized there was a contradiction involved here and merely hoped that there wasn't an afterlife. -Douglas Adams (Hitch Hikers Guide)
The Safehouse for DAOC is it dead? I’ve noticed a serious lack of interest on the boards and in the game from the stealth community. What was once an active board has now become very subdued; has ToA sucked the life out of the game?
I for one feel that our classes were hit the hardest by this new expansion. No other group of players has had so many items/ability directly alter their effectiveness, in a negative way, than the stealth classes. Artifacts with stealth lore, weapons that only level off killing stealthers, ML abilities that see through stealth and items that hide the identity of targets (panther form) have all chipped away at the already weak foundation of the DAOC assassin.
The state of the game address suggested that every effort is now being made to improve the game for the players. Is there hope that these improvements will help? Or will the changes ahead further marginalize an already disillusioned player base.
Honestly, I've gotten frustrated lately. Without the uber TOA gear, which I simply refuse to spend a week and a half farming for, i.e. 9 kills on SOK mob and no drop yet.. I've moved on and am playing my 2 50 heros (1 is s/s 1 is lw hybrid) and my Mana Eldritch.
Both of which have no trouble getting RVR groups. Well that and the population imbalances kinda tick me off too.. /shrug
One of these days Mythic will either /del Assassin or simply tell us that we weren't in their "vision"(Tm) and that we became something they can't handle/control.
I really feel for the shadowblades at this juncture, and I think it's only going to get worse for the other 2 classes as a whole.
Damn good question to ask, but I think your asking the wrong question. The question everyone should be asking themselves is "What do I want out of this game?"
Personally I think DAoC is a very good PvE game. More content has been added, lots of classes to choose from with different melee styles, spell lines and roles to fill. Alot of feature have been added that make it an improvement over other PvE games out there. I also think Mythic has shown a desire to take the game in this direction so you can expect more PvE content to be added
As a RvR, PvP, or combat oriented game, the game is a failure. Combine the bugs, the melee styles, the spell lines, the class imbalances, the hard to obtain equipment, the access of buff bots, the distrubution of RA's and you have a game that will never be "balanced on a 1v1 or a Realm vs Realm comparison. The game was not designed to be balanced from inception, and no matter how hard they try Mythic cannot bring balance into the game. You will Just have to face facts, that unless you are powergamer, with lots of time on your hands, playing the "right" class you are always going to be outgunned.
So if you want a good PvE game, your in luck. If you want a good PvE game with half-assed PvP combat your in luck as well. But if your looking for a PvP, or RvR oriented game that gives you a fair shake, better start looking elsewhere. Edited by: Brendel Blackhammer at: 12/23/03 11:21 am
My SB is in semi-retirement till frontiers comes out. I just decided to take a break and lvl up a tank so I could be of more use to my guild in RvR. At this point, even in a good guild such as mine, assns are more tollerated than desired in rvr or pve groups.
As for these boards, I am just not sure there is much more to say at this point. The issues that affect the assn community are well documented after 2 years of play. You can only beat a dead horse so much till even that effort seems futile. Maybe things will change with the frontiers xpac, but I am not holding my breath.
