Sure. You'll never approach ranger damage, but I use a bow for pulling when soloing or farming, and there is one fight where i use a bow exclusively.
Get a bloody ancille's pouch for summoning arrows, unless you want to spend a lot of time on fletching.

For the non-wealthy...two good bows are the Nightmarewood Compound Bow and the Darkwood Bow of Suffering.
Personally, I like the better STA and HP on the DBoS, and can handle the lower AC stat. Better damage ratio too.
The Bloody Ancille's Pouch has been quickly rising in price. I bought mine for 5k about two months ago (on Tribunal). I rarely see it for less than 10k now. Has some stats on it, which is okay for a range slot item, but nothing mind-blowing.
So, unless you don't mind spending 10k for "arrows", take up fletching, or go on LDoN crawls and hope for the best.
There are a couple high end fights where only a couple big tanks are allowed near the mob, if your a rogue/monk/ranger you sit back a play crowd control or Gems(tm) unless you have a bow. Rangers always have bows but rogue and monks get to sitt and watch.
Get yourself a decent long range bow to bag, or a nice bow to range slot and work on your skill. It's situational, but it will come in handy.
If your NToV capable, after a few runs you will see Bow of the Destroyers rotting. Grab one. It is 10 dam but 17 del maing it the fastest bow in EQ and you want fast when your trying to skill up in archery. Once you have a decent skill then look for a nice bow that you can keep in your range slot and not swap in all the time.
For arrows, either get a pouch (I paid 5kpp and my old bow) and pay 8pp for every 20 stacks of arrows, or raise a baby magician to level 20 to make you summoned arrows, or make friends with a mage.
For skill ups, every time I am in a raid with a mage, as we are winding down and doing loot, I would nicely ask him for a Quiver of Marr and as many stacks of arrows I could carry, then while I was still raid buffed to the max I would zone into the nearest LFG zone (Like PoV or BoT) and shoot every dam summoned arrow I had at other peoples pulls before I would camp for the night (after asking of course).
I'm at 200 now, I think my cap is 240 so I have more work to do. I can no where match a ranger (and I don't want to) but if I am in an AE fight, I can at least provide half way decent ranged DPS.
Ssolet Dnaas in Warsliks Woods is a permarooted mob who makes an excellent practice target for ranged skills. He's 50, so you should still be able to get skillups even at higher levels. -------------------------

I used a Stonewood Bow for the stats and AOB effect, the delay sucks, but if your shooting more than 1 arrow a fight something is a little screwed up anyhow.
I dont know how much Elemental bows are on your servers, but on bertoxx they are usually 95-150k or more. So another option is go to ssra and head down to the basement and kill named skeletons in the mines. this is really easy if your guild is farming shards or metal. One of the nameds can drop a Dusty Soriz Workers Pouch that summons shissar fangs 11/15 some stats 170 range. Dosent provide you with great dps but lets you help in fights like TZ and Skyfury.

I jump in and melee the TZ that spawns as part of the RZtW script... The other one I use a bow and I use a bow on one of the early MOBs in the Agnarr script. Sakharra

Stonewood isn't that slow. It does some nice damage and I saw a big jump on hits moving from priceless to stonewood. Not that I shoot much but TZ, Cursed, Sol Ro. I never worry about arrows because when I need them its a raid and a mage will make them.
Quote:The other one I use a bow and I use a bow on one of the early MOBs in the Agnarr script.Ack I know the one you mean. I'm usally on crowd control for that one fighting those whirling pain in the butts.
Stonewood is NOT SLOW. With raid buffs hell even Stanos gloves its repetitive shooting. Thats one after the other no delay. Unless your lagging. 240s crits 600 duelist crits with it FYI. And fletching is not a useless skill good for making the stonewoods itself and also do good damage. Just spend the 1k on materials for good damage/range arrows or get your trusty mage to summon you some.
I am all about the Stonewood Bow. It has nice stats for range, especially the AoB effect. The Bloody Ancille's Pouch, while somewhat expensive, is still an easy drop to obtain doing level 65 BB adventures.
The other way to speed up the Stonewood is to get a quiver. If you don't want to carry one have a magician summon you one before a ranged fight. Before those fights they're usually summoning arrows, and that spell also summons a quiver which most mages simply destroy. Send the magician a tell to save you a quiver.
Honestly I consider throwing to be broken. There are no sling type item you can use to extend your range and gain nice range slot stats. There are no throwing AA's to conserve your ammo or to increase your damage. While rogues are the "throwing masters" in the game, we get no disciplines specifically to improve our throwing damage. Essentially throwing is in the same position archery was pre-kunark, and just as broken.
Go ahead and get a bow. And if you are able to save the money, get an elemental one. You won't regret it.
