I applied to a guild, and I've been told by the head rogue that I must pass a DPS test to even have a chance at trial.
He's made it sound really strict, he told me I wouldn't stand much of a chance with epic/Gomdurig. He'll be there logging, making sure I BS every time it pops etc.
He also wants my toon's password to confirm my AAs!

I did the PoJ trials at 57 if those are the ones you're referring to. Did 4 of 'em back to back to aid a few folks in their flagging. All I had was RB main and Gomdurig offhand at the time also~
And do NOT give him your password or any other user info. There's absolutely no reason whatsoever he needs them. If he doesn't believe what you are capable of, put him in the group and have him turn on his melee hits and watch...

Im thinking screw that guild. I would never let anyone talk to me like that. If he is going to look down on you because of gear, go tell that fool to screw himself and go elsewhere.
Oh yeah, never give out password. If they require it, even more reason to app somewhere else. Just my opinion though. Peorth

Have you asked the guildleader whether or not this is the case, sounds to me like this is one rogue on the scam.

Or he wants your toon's password to steal your Gomdurig!
Perhaps I am just jaded and paranoid but I would not touch this situation with a 10 foot pole!

Yeah, not sure I'd want to be guilded with a rogue like that in any case, and like all the others said, NEVER give out your log in information. Marauder Snowblind, Barbarian Deceiver
Elder Dugann, Barbarian Prohphet
if the head rogue wants an idea on your dps, all he has to do is log while raiding which gives a true representation of raid dps. afk rogue does @#%$ for damage. Derrict Thealcoholic - Nameless Server
I'd tell him many interesting things about his stupidity if I were asked to do that.
Edit: Do not apply to this guild, seek another one.
Besides giving out your info is Illegal in the first place, if anythign happens like he change your pass and you for example email gm that you been hacked etc. They WILL Ban your account. I will not give out info even to my brother let alone some ass stranger.
Edit: If possible pm me his name and what server. I need to talk to someone. Edited by: Srath the Claw at: 1/13/04 1:17 pm
Stab him in the ding ding and tell him where he can go with his wanting your Account info. If parsing your DPS to even gain a shot at becoming an appy, that sounds prety anal also.
im going to have to agree with everyone here in that there is no reason at all for him to have your login info. DO NOT GIVE THAT TO ANYONE FOR ANY REASON. as far as him testing your dps, that sounds like a crock also. there is no guild on my server that puts recruits through that. with epic and grom, your dps is good. it is good enough to apply to a time/elem guild even. you have about the best bazaar weapons you can get. your dps is enough to join even a time guild. also, if they are putting that much emphasis on your dps rather then who you are as a player and your skill as a rogue then you might want to rethink your reasons in wanting to join that guild. im in a time guild. when i applied, they were just barely downing fennin. i had epic mainhand and nooone ever said anything about my dps. i am a good rogue and my character speaks for itself. if the guild doesnt see that and hold that in higher regard then your weapons i wouldnt have any respect for them. if the guild kills stuff then you will get gear. you will get weapons. they should know that.
As a general rule of thumb if they ask for your password thats the wrong person to give your password too.
The backstab test is stupid. Telling someone your monitoring them blows it as an indicator to future performance. Its drama for dramas sake. Dont join this guild because eventually it would dawn on you that your being led by stupid people. Which from game to RL is a really junky feeling. One to be avoided.
well, giving away logins is pretty common in highend guilds, either for boxing key classes or flag reasons.
we do ask recruits for login for reflag reasons, tho they dont have to, but they shouldnt complain if they have t wait a few more weeks/months to get their missing flags then if they dont. without people passing on logins to some other friends in guild we probably wouldnt have survived pop. but asking for login to check aa skills sounds odd =P
about the dps thing, just inspect and if you have a decent knowledge about rog items you know if its good or not.
Quote:well, giving away logins is pretty common in highend guilds, either for boxing key classes or flag reasons.
That's a completely different situation, I bet your guild does not ask for this information from prospective applicants.
Once you are in a guild for some time, sure you might hand out the info to people you can trust, but as you say thats the players decision, this guy has no choice in the matter if he want to apply he has to give out his account details.
This whole thing reeks to high heaven, run for the hills! Edited by: The Purple Tin at: 1/14/04 3:47 am
give him you info only if he gives you his
but i wouldnt give my password out to anyone, heck my wife doesnt even know it Baron Kheldhor 58 Barbarian Blackguard
laugh in his face, tell him to go f himself, and then apply to a real guild. Do some research this time and don't be so scandalous on yourself. You can do better!!

logging into your account to check your aa's is messed up tho
Agreed on the AA checking, but what's the point to parsing a rogue app? It should be pretty apparent if the app will be able to contribute right away or whether its a serious re-gearing project just from a quick inspect or a look at their magelo. Get a premium magelo account. Costs like $12 a year. Then use magelo updater to update your profile. Once you have done that, a gold Authenticated icon appears on your magelo page whenever anyone looks at it. If you manually change ANYTHING after using Magelo Updater, the gold icon turns silver and says Magelo Premuim User or something like that.
The nice thing here is that magelo updates your AA's too, so they can see what you have and what you dont have for AA's as well as for skills and gear.
I fully agree with NOT giving anyone your password. I've been in a few guilds, and nobody has ever asked me for my password. EVER. They wouldnt have gotten it even if they had though. This is as bad as a perspective employer asking for your car keys and house keys. Its wrong. Dont do it.
When my guild wants to know what someones DPS is, you can group with them in an exp group and log the groups DPS, or you can have someone turn on logging during raids. Both ways, they should be able to get a decent idea of what your DPS easily enough.
Wow, anyone trying to ask me for my password, gets a /report and /petition, and the stamp as a scammer never to be trusted. Ishwar - level 65 Barbarian Rogue - GM smith
To a serious raiding guild, having an appropriate level of bazaar buy-able gear, along with perhaps a mix of BOT/Velious/Luclin gear shows that you take time to further your character as best you can by yourself. In short, it shows you put time and effort into the advancement of your character, something they like.
Now, that having been said, any real raiding guild can equip you in a matter of weeks if you're willing to put in the time commitment they're looking for. A DPS test is ridiculous. He knows your weapons, he should have a rough idea of the DPS you're doing anyways. If they're that concerned you're lieing about your AA's, take a screenshot... though that seems ridiculous, I've never heard of a high end guild asking that, as it's usually apparent very quickly if someone doesn't have the AA's they say they do.
And as for your password? That's downright hilarious. I'd post that all over your server's flame board so this guild can be laughed at and mocked. After that apply to a real guild, real guilds will be much more interested in your commitment, playtime, resolve to advancing your character, and your competency as a player.
