Using disciplines
Reply With Quote   #1

I'd like to know how Rogues have been using disciplines, especially the new disciplines. I'm not sure what is the most useful way to apply them. I have used them when a particularly hard mob who has a chance of getting a heal off is low on health, but what other ways are people using them and in what situations? I'm just worried I'm not using them enough or in the right situations and hate to not use them if they are there.

With the new discs I happen to use damage discs more often than earlier.

In case of emergency I wanted to keep nimble open, and with the old duration of duelist, I didn't use it much at all in exp groups or normal raid cleanup, only on boss mobs.

Nowadays I pop duelist when there are several mobs in camp or some other situation that can use more damage. Same goes with deadeye (or whatever was the highest level of that), that is in separate timer from duelist.

Only situations I'm hesitant of using are when there is big enough a problem in camp and I'm deciding whether I can survive the 30 seconds of duelist before being able to use nimble.

I like to keep counter available at all times. It's a great emergency discipline. Healer not get their heal off in time and the tank is dead? Man up son! Do the *gasp!* unthinkable, be the tank. Counterattack give you 30 seconds of riposting all front facing attacks. So you can tank the mob for long enough that a caster can get root off. Then if you've got multiple mobs. Backpeddle and repeat until you've space 'em all out.

I use blinding speed and duelist both.
Blinding speed ups your attack rate even if you are at the haste cap, which is real nice if you suddenly have to do alot more dps.

Duelist is the end all be all of dps increase discs though, effectively doubling your damage output for 30 seconds.

I also use healing will on occasion if all the mobs are dead and healer lom

I will use Kinesthetics and/or Deadly Precision on any significant pull (how many is "significant" depends on where I am and what sort of crowd control we have). It's fairly rare that I will use Duelist or Deadeye in an xp group, but they are my preferred pair on raid targets.

With the new durations on Resistant and Fearless they have their uses now. I will typically pop Resistant on AE mobs after the two dps discs are down.

My biggest problem with Nimble (or Counterattack, if you prefer, they last the same amount of time now) is that half the time I go to use it I get "You are already using a discipline!" I wish there was a keyboardly way to stop a disc, when I hit that Nimble button I really, really want to Nimble right now.

The math still doesn't work out on Twisted Chance or Blinding Speed. They are clearly inferior dps to the lower level discs on their timer.

Are you sure about this duration? If they did increase it to 30 seconds I did entirely miss it. Been using nimble and I am pretty sure it isn't 30 seconds (as someone mentioned counterattack and nimble having same duration)

Counterattack is still a short duration. Used to be 9sec. Lucy says 2 ticks (12sec) Your Sister in Arms,

Usually use Duelist and Deadly Precision. Duelist and Deadeye for bigger fights. Not sure if I'm maximizing DPS or anything...but I like seeing the bigger BS's

I do what Malledar does: duelist / deadeye when I know I won't need deadeye/dp for another ~ 22 minutes. I'll use DP during clearings of yard trash and such then just save it for deadeye when I know the last mob I'll be fighting is coming up shortly, like clearing PoEb chiefs. I'll go duelist / dp on the first chief, dp on the 2nd and 3rd chief, duelist should be back up for the warlord and same with deadeye. Derrict Thealcoholic

if the text on the skill boxes is to be beleived it's 30 seconds
I've never really bothered to time it though. It might be shorter. SoE is know for typos. The summoned poison from stanos gear says it's stun effect lasts 15 seconds.....which is a bold faced LIE. Not to mention it does no where near the damage it says it does, even over the duration of the buff.

Same goes with Nemocyst poison

I'll use it today and count it off

Same as others with DP/Deadeye and duelist. But I also like to disc early in a fight to give me a bit more time for end regen and then I have a full counter attack left.

I use counter attack on enraging mobs that are not cornered, when the mob enrages I move to stand near to MA and hit counter attack. My plan is that this will help mob stay facing MA during rage and turn less often. I do however have to be careful to turn attack off before moving to front of mob, and keep an eye on disc timer in case it runs out before mob finishes enraging, otherwise i luck like a daft rogue Knivek Muppet
