Decided to play a Wood Elf Rogue on Morden Rasp server and have made level 12 already in 10 hours.
My questions are:
1) If I am wanting to be purely offensive, which stats and weapon ratio would I be seeking? Plus other stuff that might help.
2) If I wanted to be purely defensive, "able to tank and be kind to healers", what would I want to spend the effort on for gear and stats.
Partly I know AC rules and to work STR and STA. I put all my starting bonus points into STA and the rest into STR...low at start for WE.
I want to start aiming towards one of these types early so I am better prepared for when the time comes. I am trying to get out of the lowbie levels asap but skills have been raising very nicely too....3 mobs and Defense was maxxed for level 12.
With my old rogue, I was pretty much grab what gear I could and hunt for a group again to XP. Pretty much a loner so never made many friends that still play. My rogue on Dru Ro has a Blood Point and Crystaline Spider fang so I know those 2 weapons are nice.
Forget about tanking until you are in elementals/time and you feel like making peeps feel humble by occasionally tanking BoT or something. Rogues should always be behind the mob. STR is what you need most as a wood elf rogue...I made mine with all points in dex and regretted it until I got my primal from Sleepers Tomb.
Well, I dont see myself getting the chance to make it into a Upper End Game raid guild.
This is mainly for someone who might venture into POP zones for XP. Yes though, I would love to join a Raid guild and groom myself more for the DPS/offensive rogue in the long run. At this time though, I see myself in small groups and maybe having to be the MT for under 50 XP grinds.
Thanks for your reply though. At least I know not to expect to be wanting any aggro when in POP zones.
I've tanked in BoT a couple times with my mediocre gear for some friends when we were bored, both times I had a cleric and shaman duo healing me though.
For purely offensive, I would say get str and dex up there. Get the best ratio weapon you can find while maximizing your damage value. (ie 10/30 is better than 9/27).
For defensive, I would say focus on AC and hitpoints. primarily with hp's having more weight than AC. Also, don't forget your defense skill. Don't fool yourself though, when you are tanking you aren't backstabbing and that means lower skill and less DPS. Even though I pretty much never solo'd - at 49 my backstab skill was still sorely low (Like 160ish) and it wasn't until about 61 that I maxed it! It goes up sooo slow.
A great ratio/high damage for a lower level Rogue (no rec level) and thats fairly cheap is a Fungusbeast spine. I can't recall its stats right off hand, but they were decent for the price. Offhand ... focus on ratio only. Edited by: Koer at: 3/25/04 12:31 pm
for your primary weapon low delay is very important, the more times you hit the more often the damage bonus is applied and damage bonus=free damage.
you will want a meaty poker for backstabs but you may go the route of alot of rogues and snag a crappy high damage poker and swap it in for backstabs.
offensive or defensive you want hp gear and as much as you can get your grubbly little paws on.
burn points at the trainer to keep you backstab skill up...that or cry cause it raises so slowly on its own. (I kept mine within 5 points of the cap with training points.) Edited by: Diabalein Avidyia at: 3/26/04 3:34 am
Good point Diabalein. I will have to try and locate a better weapon. Choices are slim right now do to low level and low cash but its getting better.
One thing I noticed at creation is I wont have a good base of HP since WE are low in STA. I will prolly go the AC/HP route regardless of wether I go Off or Def.
So far, its a blast and I think thats the most important part for now.
