I'm going to be going to the new PvP server as a rogue (Gnome of course) and I have heard about 'frontstabbing' while dueling and I was wondering if anyone here could give me some tips on how to do that?
"real" frontstabbing is a complex technigue involving attack radius, server to client latency, and visual perception of your client.
Me explaining it to you won't let you be able to do it. But I'll try anyway.
Imagine rushing a player head on. If you hit backstab ruiight when yer barely in combat range you get a regular hit off. If you hit backstab after you've passed the person you get a <cannot see target> message.
But when you rush someonee from the front, you pass thru enough of theiir polygons so you are still physically in front of their center point but have a a clear view of the polygons that make up the backside of the player and then hit backstab, you make a roll for a sucessful backstab <not a regular hit>
Theres alot more to it, especially yer rate of travel, how often the client sends data to the server on whether you can see your target, what rate of speed you are traveling and where you should be traveling before the next data packet is sent, melee range check, timing of backstab butten depresion from client to server, and the list goes on.
I have noticed if you turn slightly towards your opponent it works much more reliably. I was jousting at the arena a few weeks ago and was getting this to work one out of three times.
Yah, if you go at your oponant at an angle, theres a moment where the server misplaces both your coordinates so to the server it thinks your are behind your oponant while your client makes the visual checks on whether you can see your target and he's in range.
Going in at an angle gives you a larger area for the act of frontstabbing to occur. Wish I could find my photoshop disk otherwise I'd make a diagram. Cause that explination barely makes sense to me
The true meaning of Frontstabbing is basically just exploiting the server while jousting.
Jousting is basically where you run head on at a guy and hit the attack button right as you pass to get hits in. It takes some getting used to (do not do this with a warrior who has a wieghted axe people...very bad things will happen)
Anyway while jousting i have my htkeys set up as follow
This makes it extremly easy to joust. Now back to frontstabbing. It takes a tequniqe but youll get used to it, i can pretty much do it everytime now. So when running by, you wait till they are right in front of you, like litterally 2 inches. and Hit 1, 2, 2 being last. Evens out slot you see.
You hit 1 right there in his face which will hopfully give you at least 3 hits. then hit 2 (by the time you hit 2 youll be going through him which causes the server to think your behind the person and will make a nice backstab. ) Very pleasing when you do this. Esspecially when you Quad for 30+ and then land a nice 160-200 backstab.
Ill say it agian ( DO NOT JOUST A WARRIOR WITH A WIEGHTED AXE) you go crunch. For about a double of 200dmg. Yes it hurts...
When they use the wieghted just get right up on em and hit em for about 3 sec then back off. Then act like your going in for a joust but back off right at the last min. 99% of the time theylkl hit attack and screw it up. Then just go in agian. Most of the time theyll switch it out for a mith 2 hander or Exe axe. Go ahead and joust em. Just not with wieghted axe ...OR EPIC but you already new that... Good question Lar. Ill tell ya why they dont follow. Becuase they are already running after you. The first rogue that goes into joust mode usually wins the fight. Thats becuase you have taken control. A good jouster will never use the same moves twice. You have to mix it up on them a lil bit. Such as:
Charge go for the front stab. Turn around quicly:
Charge in, back off (when ya do this you just charge in and back up, theywill hit auto attack but you wont be in range) then charge back in.
if you keep mixing it up a bit they will be dumb founded or they will get smart and start jousting with you. You have to set the pace. If you do you win. Most players will want to stand there toe to toe. So what do you do? Give them what they want, for a brief second. Then joust. They will probly not move from the same spot the entire fight.
Now why do they not follow you when you run past and backstab them? Becuase they are dumb founded that you landed a 150+ backstab on them. After they finnally recover your on your way back to give them a bit more.
THigns you dont do while jousting:
Dont joust a caster...why? becuz its stupid.
When jousting never use the same moves twice in a row (if you do it can get pretty ugly)
Dont always go in for the hit, go in and strafe out of range, this really messes with there head.
Dont joust a warrior with a wieghted axe. You just wont win 99% of the time. Why? Becuase a warrior with a weighted axe will double on you for 200+ most of the time. That 400+ damage in 2 swings. Ouch. You have to manivure around the axe and go in and chip away chip away then back off. It takes some timing. Youll get the hang of it though
Thats about it right now. And jousting a person while rooted (not a caster just go in for the kill there..) Is acually smart. so do it. Its like shooting ducks in a barel you cant miss
