Trying out my 7 day trial from fileplanet, getting used it to, and then gonna go try the pvp out. Anyone else tried it, and how boring does it get? Seems like a game that could get really deep, but very time consuming.
Looked really interesting pre-release, then I tried beta and was bored to tears by the end of day 1. It's very pretty, but it simulates space a little too well - huge, giant, massive, empty quiet spaces that you pilot through mindlessly. Amadan :: Child of the Phoenix ::

Yeah the travel is the downside so far, with over 5000 systems in the game. On the other hand, I can setup the autopilot for a 20 system jump and come back, so I got mixed feelings.
And the game can be pretty much "finished" in three weeks by three people. This means those three people can get the best upgrades and ships and massive amounts of money within this time. Mining isn't that fun, and even though pirate hunting sounds fun, it really isn't that much different than mining other than you're being shot back at. Just make sure you buy EVE cheap if you're still interested. That way once you get to a point of boredom you can sell your stuff for some real cash and make your game fee plus the initial cost of the game. It's an alright game, but nothing that should ever have to be paid for...
Played the beta. Nice to see someone trying to do something different, unfortunatly it ranked above Earth & Beyond and Shadowbane...which isn't much, and it kind of followed in the footsteps of Jumpgate.
Well official today, E&B is dead in september. I think the problem with Eve, is its so damn deep in possibilities that its hard to wrap your brain around things. Also, they need to spread the ship classes out more, and tweak the economy. But the more I look, the more interested I become. Think it will be a good time me over till WoW.
I guess i'm not too suprised at E&B going down. EA didn't really give it much of a chance. Fun game for a month or two. If they woulda added a lot more content it woulda been great.
As for holding you over until WoW, I thought the same thing around the end of December beginning of January, and now after playing it for less than a month and doing pretty much all there is to do I finally convinced my friends to go to FFXI which was what I had orginally got to hold me over until WoW. Much better game overall, but its more fun if you have other people with you. EVE is just a waste of money and time, because thats all it is, a giant time sink. It looks neat, but it gets old real fast doing the same tasks over and over again.
Well a month into it, and while it has ups and down, a lot more fun that I was having in EQ. While I wait for WoW to launch (and maybe beyond), it's a nice change of pace, and boy does it have some serious group politics. So if anyone wants to give it a try, ezmessage me your email and I'll send a buddy code. It's good for a 7 day trial.
I got re-invited to play it again with a free 14 days (I was a beta tester sot hey sent something out to give it a 2nd look). Not sure when I'll get around to activting the free days (waiting to be not so busy) but I'll PM you when I do.

Well I kinda have had a weird experience. Got in when fileplanet had the 7 day trial. Then 3 days into that the news about E&B broke, and there was a huge influx. Then they offered 14days to all the beta testers. Then they changed the 3 day buddy trials to 7 day trials. So right now there is a huge chunk of people spooling up. I like it for a play when I want to, do what I want to game. I can group or solo, and make money doing it. If I don't feel like playing, I train a long time skill and take a few days off, losing no advancement because of it. If someone plays 24/7 they will have more money, more faction, ect, but they won't be able to use their free time surplus to overwhelm the casual players time deficit, which is good in a pvp enabled game.
For me, the 5000 systems, hundreds of corps, and player driven market is the thing. I have seen complexe player organizations that put anything I ever seen in DAOC or EQ to shame. CEOs, Directors, Mining Managers, Security Chiefs. Pirates, Bounty Hunters, Miners, Manufacturers, Researchers, it has all manner of things for all manner of people.
